Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Just wanted to communicate my experience with SMKW. It was my first time to visit and it was great. I spent nearly four hours in the store. I did not realize they had vintage knives for sale in addition to the new ones. I bought a Case trapper from 1984 that had the new grind blades on it. This is the first one of these I have seen , although I had read about this time period. I also bought an Opinel and a large and medium Case John Deere stockman. I had a peanut in my orders at the register, but told the sales person to swap the peanut for the large stockman. When I got back home I reviewed my purchases and found they had charged me for the peanut instead of the large stockman which is what I got in its place. The peanut goes for around $60 and the large Stockman went for $72.  I called them up and said they had undercharged me for the stockman. They talked to the manager, and they said they appreciate my honesty, and did not charge me the difference , which I was willing to pay. It is a really good store and I highly recommend it to anyone. I will definitely go back one day. I also picked up some CoonP oil to try on my knives.

Doug, I went to Gatlinburg area for last 20 years without ever going in . Granted I just carried knives then, not collecting, but I still liked knives well enough I should have went in. I will go back, I do wish their  shipping was a little cheaper and I would buy more online.

I can't believe my wife and I spent a week in the Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge area and never went to SMKW. I may need to hand in my knife collecting card.

Well Ricky, you will just have to go back soon..

Chuck, that stash is a great idea, a person has gotta buy knives, that's just all there is to it.

I agree Rick. I've been there 3 times and still have not seen everything. We'll be in Pigeon Forge for a week so I plan on going there more than once this time. I also agree that the wives get a little nervous when their husbands walk into the place with the look on their face a Zombie has. Walking around in a trancelike condition, occasionally salivating uncontrollably, mumbling incoherent phrases, constantly changing their minds on purchases while making sure they have a jury proof reason for each purchase. One real pitfall is that this time our hotel is located very close to the Big Blue Roof. Coincidence? My wife is to smart to use that excuse. That's why I'm also starting a stash of cash so that after my self-imposed limit on the credit card has been reached, I'll still have some means to satisfy my addiction.

Glad to here it Chuck.  I was overwhelmed with what to buy. My wife did not want to leave me in that store with a credit card. I believe I missed a lot  of things because of the amount of items in that store.

Going on vacation in August and will definitely be stopping there. Taking my Celtic Cross collection so I can get a pic of it with me and Brian Wilhoite (the designer) and hopefully an autograph. The pic and autograph will be enclosed in the case to make it a real showpiece for my collection. Trying to decide what I'll buy to add to my collection. I figure I'll be able to buy one additional knife with the money I'll save since they won't have to ship those to me. I'm also really hoping to meet Tony, Jay, and the rest of the KnivesLive gang and get them to sign a knife box or two. Going to spend some time in the museum and of course take lots of pictures to post. We're also going to be looking over the housing market since we will be moving there in 3 years when my wife and I retire. Now that would be a super place for a retiree to get a part time job!

Tell us about your visit, David, especially after your knife show experience last week.

Ricky, I sure agree with you on SMKW. I just have had one visit and I loved it. Glad you did to. I don't know how anyone who likes knives could not just enjoy himself at that store. And the people are great also. I am going back again someday.
