Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I collect Vintage Knives and I'm sure alot of our members do too. It's fun collecting knives from the yester years. Some we have heard how well they were made and their performance in the feild was hard to beat. The old time construction and the amount of labor put into each one is hard to match in the knife world today. My question for ya'll is "Has anyone bought a vintage knife with a great reputation, to become a user knife". I would like to buy one of the old time knives of our forefathers and put it back to work. I don't mean getting a mint knife from 1920, worth a $1000 and start using it, but one in  used shape and a lower price range. Check it out to see what the old timers were bragging about. Let me know what ya'll think.

Sorry, getting used to posting pictures, but in response to your blog, I picked up this old folder from a local flea market a couple of months ago, for only a couple of pounds, It was made in sheffield by Harrison Brothers. Has cutlers to 'His Majesty' on the smaller blade so I'm assuming it's 1910's onwards (early 20th Century anyway), it has a slim profile and what looks like bone/ ivory scales. I use the smaller blade at work alot for sharpening pencils and the like. In the UK we have very tight knife carrying laws, so only a non locking blade under 3 inches is allowed. This is one I carry quite a lot, it's a bit of a gent around town really. Actually my other EDC knife is a second hand knife, an old Sheffield Seamans knife with a marlin spike (T.W.W Ltd). Again it only cost about Five pounds and has a razor sharp edge and it's great to carry as everyone asks what the spike is for, "is it for getting stones out of horses hooves", they always look a bit disapointed when I start chuntering on about knots B¬)

Funny thing, $8.00 can get you a burger and fries........or one or two good old vintage knives, if you know where to look.

Old Imperials that I find, more often then not, become my EDC for a good long time. Truth be told, when I carry a vintage, used knife, I have more people commenting on it then when I carry my brand spanking new Case!
I love reusing those old things.
Get ya a good one. Reuse it, make it live again!

I'm glad to hear some of you guys have an interest in putting some of the old time knives a little bit more fun in life. I love the old knives and I'm sure the craftsman had no idea, there would be a big renewall in their knives years later. The thing, I enjoy about ya'll responses, is ya'll all agree in giving the old knife, a new chance at life. I'm not sure, which brand knife that I would like to give a rebirth to, so many choices. Marbles, Sharde, Case, Queen, Remington, Camillus, Boker and so many more, I can't mention them all. I have given vintage knives as Chirstmas presents and had the best compliments, of course, you better make sure they understand what their getting. A great vintage knife not some old used, wore out blade.lol Thanks for ya'll's response, to my little Post.

What kind of knife were you looking to put back to work? I may have an extra a user I can donate to your experience. I've got a lot, wanting to get back to work. Look through my albums and let me know if you see an old user that strikes your fancy.

I rotate  what I carry from a old imperial, case, and K-Bar they have been cleaned up polished and sharpened. Putting that old knife on the shelf is like buying a old car or bike and not driving it, what's the fun in that. If its worth so much you can't use it I stay stay from it, usually buy old rough knifes and redo them.

As a matter of fact, recently I have been carrying my vintage(old) knives. Today in fact I am carrying a 1950's 4" Western Stockman & 4" Cattaraugus Jack knife along with the Maverick. The 4 of us are looking for some trouble to get out of, but mostly I find you need one or two of those blades when detailing the Vette.
