That knife you just aquired has a tang stamp that ID 's the maker. Most of us are familier with 95 percent of the manufactuers, but what about new collectors or a stamp that we just havent looked at before?

where do you go to ID a knife ? what is you personal choice of reference? 

This may help new and old collectors alike.

For a good many of them I stay right here.  Most of our groups have had an entry for current and previous tangs.  Sue does some amazing research and shares it in the Bladesmith Babes INPUT area.  Then there are the unknowns....I love the search but it is not easy.  If I can identify a makers mark, I then go to Tobias site and look up the who owns who.  Sometimes you can trace an old mark to a newer company with this method
