I was at a Gun Show. A person had a small knife, about 2" closed, A 'about', 1.75 blade & a .75" blade on the other end.  It looked to have MOP handles, Could not see any markings. other than, what to the naked eye, 4 'proof' marks, which on close exam, 'looked' like sterling sliver proofs.   (I did not have a camera or magnifying glass with).   He had it marked, 32.00. offered him 20.00.  He then said, 'Very Smartly", "It is Sterling Sliver, and worth more than that in Silver".   I told him: "Well if the blades are indeed Sterling, and at 20.00 per ounce, and Sterling is 92% Silver, those blades won't add up to 1/2 a ounce.  Here is a 20.00 dollar bill".  He refused, I walked away. 2 hours later, as I was leaving, I went by his, table. He had now marked it, 42.00.

So my question. Was their ever a small penknife, not cheepley made, but most certainly NOT quality made. that Ever had, Sterling Sliver blades.  ?  Or were their some, that the blades were just, 'plated', with Silver.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but wouldnt sterling be too soft to be a blade?

Even Sterling is a alloy .925 The knife would surley be a looker not a user.

In the early 80's.  I learned, that 'plating', of carbon steel, ( a Gun Trigger/Hammer or other exposed parts). Had to be plated  with copper, then Silver or Gold.  As Silver/Gold, would not, 'stick' to steel, but it would to copper.  And Copper would, 'stick to steel'.    And yes, a 92% Silver blade,  I think, would be way to soft.

I have seen only one and it had a steel blade and sterling one.You would have to judge if real by close examinatation  I never seen a penknife with two

Thanks Michael!

Michael's pattern of choice is fruit knives and he has a large collection of them in pearl, I figured if anyone had seen one it would be him.

Thanks Michael,

And I, ’think’, perhaps, that is what it was. One blade,. possibly, Sterling, and one Steel.
Next time I go to a gun show, by that, ‘Company’,
I will make sure to bring a camera, and Glass.

( Gun Show companies, tend to have the same venders,
and this, ‘company’ is not a well respected company in this area,
as the venders are either, ‘new’, ’A.H’s.’, ‘clueless’, or just plain, ‘dishonest’)

So, If I see it again,  What do you think?  Value?
I know, I know.  “Ya gotta see it”.
But,  Is it a 20-30 piece? or more, considering,
no maker’s name, and in average condition.
ONLY a ‘Guessastimant” !

Thanks

Check the Hallmarks and consider the age and marker of sterling blade.I would have paid the 42.00 but make sure its a factory knife and not just put together.
