Old Boker on ebay,

Watched this one and I was kinda suprised at the price. Was wondering what everyone esle thought about it.

I dont know Brian, that seems like a lot for the knife. Looks like it might be the 20-30 tang. I believe that is the last time they used improved. It has been more than just sharpened a little. Sweet knife, a lot more than i would have gone for it

First let me say that I was not involved in the bidding for this knife. Secondly, it is an old, exceptionally hard pattern to find in any condition. I have some old H. Boker moose pattern knives, but not that particular one with the wide grooved bolsters. Also, that is the first one I have ever seen (outside of old pictures) with that type of bolster. I've attached a picture from Boker's 1928 catalog that shows that exact same knife pattern.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying, but I stand by my statement that the exact knife in discussion is an exceptionally hard pattern to find in any condition. You yourself posted previously that it was a rare pattern. I only collect old H. Bokers and have for the past 15 years or so. The fact that the knife was made circa. late 1800's - early 1900's range and it was the first style (bar shield & wide grooved bolsters) of that particular moose pattern that I have actually seen is why I stated that. I haven't seen one in over 15 years of looking (beside pictures) before this one showed up on ebay. Since I had not seen one like it in that long of a time period is one of the main reasons I consider it rare or hard to find. I'm sure there are some others out there somewhere, but old swell-center H. Boker moose patterns are not common. Just to be clear, I was neither the buyer, bidder or seller; I just watched the auction.

Now that is some good information Roger. I did not know that pattern was rare enough that a person that collecting H Boker for over 15 years would not see it often. The catalog is an excellent reference!

Thank you Roger for finding us the underlying difference in this moose and other H Boker Moose. It appears there were only 4 active bidders, maybe 5. That is a good number of folks to have know what this was. I appreciate the help!!

You're welcome Jan. I noticed there were 61 total bids by just a few repeat bidders. I've attached some pictures of H. Boker swell-center moose pattern knives that I have. Meanwhile, I am still looking for one with the straight bar shield and deep grooved bolsters. Maybe one day.
