Vintage Morseth knife-photos included

New member Richard Whittington emailed me some photos of his vintage Morseth knife seeking some information on it.With his permission, I am posting photos and what I found out. Richard inherited this beauty from an avid deer hunter, so it has been sharpened and used, but is still in great condition.It has the Morseth patented Safe- Lok sheath which Bob Loveless stated in a 2001 Blade magazine article- "The best sheath in the world was the Morseth (Safe-Lok) sheath... There is no knife sheath better for safety." This knife also features the Brusetto laminated blade material imported from Norway as blade blanks, then shaped and hardened to Rockwell 63 by Morseth. Beautiful Sambar stag handles. Richard's knife is their modified Bowie with 6" blade dating to 1961-1971. Blade's Guide to Knives & Their Values (2009) values this model at $900. Pretty nice inheritance !! BTW, I included a 1952 Morseth ad which describes the blade material and sheath.

Looks like the "Safe Lock" system is a forerunner of Kydex. Cool stuff.

Also....I love the fact that it's been a user.

As a maker nothing warms my heart more than someone making use of the hard work a maker put into their craft.

I've used the same steel in some early knives I made. it's Awesome for holding an Edge.

I am sorry it has taken me so long to say thank you for the information and nice comments on my knife. I was out of circulation for a while, with back problems, and lost track of this.
I was also going to post some pictures of a very nice Randall that I also inherited. It’s a drop point with a stag handle, leather sheath with a stone. I believe it is a model 19. It’s never been used and is in, I believe, excellent condition. If anyone is interested I can post some pictures.
