Another Deer season. I went out Oct 1st and sat in the woods in my new Big Mike blind and saw 4 deer. One was a nice big Doe, but she had young with her. They were plenty big enough and spots all gone, but I just couldn't shoot. Its early yet. I have my eye on a nice Buck and will be looking for him. He was on camera almost every day until deer season started and hasn't been on camera yet. They sure are smart. I will add to this from time to time and hope you will share your deer hunting experience and pics for this year as well.

It's a joy Charles, just seeing Whitetail deer in their natural habitat. I'm glad to see that you didn't take real hard shots with your bow. Everything has to be just right to kill with a bow. I use to hunt with a traditional bow but because of my disability, I can't any more. I have a cross bow but I seldom hunt with it. I hunt rabbits and squirrels during that time of the season. Good luck with that bow.
Speaking about bows. I was doing some remolding at my camp and decided to remove a bed and put chest of drawers in it's place. When I moved the bed out, to my surprise I found a bow and arrow set in a case. It had to be there at least 15 years are more. I have no idea who it belonged to. It's all in good shape. It probably needs a new string. Well in a camp next to mine, the owner and friend has 2 boys. One has a bow and killed a doe with it just last weekend. The other boy doesn't have enough money right now to buy a new bow. I have decided to give the bow set to him, this coming weekend. I can't wait to see his face. It's a PSE compound bow with all the stuff, arrows, trigger, quiver, etc.
Robert, I hate to wound and lose an animal whether it is a deer or a squirrel. Last season I passed on a 60 yard shot at a 7 point buck. A couple of seasons ago I passed up a shot at a very nice buck with my .30-06. It was a 200 yard shot and the buck was partially obscured by brush. I decided to wait for a better shot which I never got but that is alright.
I bow hunted this morning. Didn't see any deer but I did see a white squirrel and three wild turkeys. I also heard the coyotes howling.
Great Charles! That's what it is to be a Sportsman and not a meat hunter. Respect for the game you hunt is what it's all about. Just to say you shot something is not where it's at, while hunting. A greedy hunter is not a friend of mine. Taking only good shots is a very genuine way to hunt. You can still miss or loose game but at least you gave it your best shot. It's good to call you my hunting friend.
Thank you Robert. I am honored to be called your friend.
I always let more deer walk than I shoot. Last season I sighted 87 deer while hunting. I killed one, a small 8 point buck. Granted, some of those were out of range of even my .30-06 but several of them weren't. I let a lot of small bucks and does walk.
This season so far I have seen 13 deer and killed none.
Two deer and four wild hogs were killed at our club, during our hunting trip. I saw deer on every hunt. I did see a nice buck one morning but by the time I got the gun up to aim, he slipped away in the under brush. The high ground around the lower and swampier ground is very thick. He only exposed himself but for a few seconds. I will hunt him hard and maybe he will give me a little longer time to aim.
Woke up this morning to 4" of snow. So I got in the woods about 10:30am and shot a meat Doe at about 1pm. Now I can be more picky. Suppose to be 7 degree tonight.
Congrats Ken. Every kill is exciting, even a doe. If you can turn the job over to one of your grandchildren it's even more exciting.
Thanks Robert. My oldest Grandson came down last year and shot a deer. He doesn't Bow hunt yet. Our Gun season is Dec 1-7 - Shotgun or pistol only.
Congrats, Ken. Nothing wrong with a meat deer.
Went deer hunting this afternoon. Saw twelve, killed one, a nine point buck. Can see pictures at this link.

Congrats Charles, was that with a Bow? Its record cold here this morning, record since 1880. Glad I don't have to hunt anymore this week. Maybe next week.
Its our 47th Anniversary today.
Congrats Charles, that's a fine deer. Congrats to you to, Ken, on your anniversary.
