Charles, Louis and Clark reported populations of coyotes in Missouri. Chances are good that the population was eradicated at one time but bounced back.  This is not uncommon.   Coyotes are very durable and adaptable.

there should be a coyote season .....could you imagine if that was a child.....I have seen how they are encroaching on most urban areas now .......and since they are canine they breed and multiply rapidly....such a shame they are becoming a threat.

Yes they are. For a brief time they restarted that program and it was $45 if I remember right. This was several years ago and I think it has been dropped.

Also have seen different color coyotes, red, brown, black and gray.

Steve, coyotes are not native to Missouri either.  They are an invasive species there also.

Well it is a fact of life for sure. We raise Kiko Goats and Great Pyrenees Plus we are so deep in the woods with virtually no civilization around us we always deal with coyotes. We train the dogs to bark them off but if they somehow get in the dogs have to deal with them.  Sometimes we can see them first in the daytime or early evening and we do shoot them inside of our fencing.

Listen coyote exist for a reason as do bobcats and mountain lions. My job here is to keep them away from the livestock using good fencing practices, good dogs and keeping an eye on problems that I can address with a firearm.

As it should be, if they are a threat and over populated there should be a season

When Coyotes come in our yards and kill our pet dogs, not counting chickens, sheep and anything else you want to raise, well, their respect as a wild animal needing their space is lost. Louisiana never had Coyotes until the Fox hound clubs brought them into our state. A very sad situation.

Robert like i said before  It a shame that fox hunters are  to blame as they over hunted one breed and brought it an invasive breed. This is not really the coyote's fault but it has created a problem for you and others in your state!  We see this happen world wide!  Remember it was cats and dogs that escaped from ships that led to the extinction of the Do-do bird which despite the reputation of its name was actually a very intelligent bird.  It just couldn't out run the cats and dogs that suddenly showed up on its island habitat.  Basically in the case of your coyotes, it was a problem created by humans and now you and the coyotes have to deal with the situation.  And as usual the invasive species seems to be winning!
