Getting around in iKnifeCollector.com

A good many times I have heard, you’re not set up like a forum and I keep getting lost.  So I have decided we need a cheat sheet.

The main page of iKC is where everything has its roots but from any page you can reach the navigation bar at the top

You can bring yourself to the main page from anywhere by clicking main

Once there the set up pretty much stays that same

THE LEFT COLUMN              THE CENTER COLUMN                              THE RIGHT COLUMN

WHAT IS HOT                        GROUPS                                                     INBOX/SETTINGS

FORUMS                               PHOTO SLIDE SHOW                                 LATEST ACTIVITY

BIRTHDAYS                           BLOGS                                                       SPONSORS

                                             VIDEOS

                                             EVENTS

Notice the navigation bar at the top will also take you to the same places.  The biggest different is when you come in from the main page of iKC, it shows you the latest in each of those categories.  There are more tabs at the top that you can explore but this is the basics for navigating around our site.

Have some fun, visit a portion of the site you have not previously seen.  Did you know we have over 70 specialty GROUPS to talk about your favorite brand, outdoor activities, survival, shooting, repairing knives or even the beginning builder.

As always, Thanks for being here with us.  The members are what make our site a home

you guys are awesome.......

Browser update...

Must have 10 to 12 different browsers on my tablet, to test iKC(Ning) comparability.

So far, the best ones I've found were Chrome,  Chrome Beta and Opera.

Two different Safari browsers, and the One browser, CM Browser and the Dolphin Browser all have problems with loading photos.  Some will bring up the popup window but won't link to the gallery to load. Others will reach the gallery, but show error messages when uploads are attempted.

Anyone have a good browser that can utilize all the functions that the site has, let me know.

Going to have to add Jan's "About Us" page to the guide,

I stick with old faithful  Mozilla Firefox.

Oh and 1 more thing...to save passwords in Goggle Chrome follow these instructions:https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95606?hl=en

Yes, Puffin. It does about everything I need, handles Flash very well and all HTML so works in chat and pictures and text boxes and all the rest. There is a cost to me of .99 every 6 months but I am OK with that rather large expense!

Puffin has a free version, for Android.
Downside is no flash support in the evening and night hours.

Wow OK did not know that. I do use it in the evening and often for chat. Works pretty well other than for some reason posting a double post.

Tobias posted an updated tutorial on how to post pics, from a PC, in another discussion.  Thanks Toby.

(Guess he's going to make me do one on posting from Android.)

Adding an image is pretty simple.  Here is how it works

First determine what image you want to add and put it on your computer.  That might be the hardest part.  Make sure it is somewhere you can find it on your computer!

Next:  Click on the little picture icon above the comment box (see image below)

A pop up window will display.  Click the browse button and start looking for your image.  I find it easiest to put the images I want in an easy to find folder or on the computer desk top so I know where to look!

Now it is time to start looking!  I've got hundreds of folders nested in hundreds of folders so for me that can be a challenge!

But eventually I find what I want or just take anothe rphot of the item and put it on my desktop!

Eventually you find your pic.  Choose it and click OPEN

The pop up window will return.  Wait for the little spinny thing to stop spinning and click OK

Your image will magically appear in the comment box you are typing in.

Click the ADD REPLY and your job is done!

Thank you for that pic tutorial. I am afarid many people are finding it difficult to post pics and maybe with a look at how it all works they can accomplish it!

OH No If facebook looks at my page I'm in trouble.
