The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
So here we are 2015 and we need a knife!!!! Again, I don't like to just choose one and say this is it. This is OUR community knife not my personal knife.
As with last year I want 125.00 or below in your hand. We only run 50 so they need to be in a knife companies production line up we can tie into and make the knife our own. Not all companies will do this, but most of them will work with us.
There have been a lot of questions about doing a Fixed Blade this year, I am all for it but we need 50 commitments. So lets talk it through, what do you think?????

I agree with Michael O. West, that "made in China" doesn't appeal to me. It doesn't work for me either. I can do a lot of other countries.
I cater to the older patterns-- I would be most happy with a barlow with a natural handle with etched bolster- If however, we decided to go with a fixed blade, I like the Silver Stag idea Data suggested.. Regardless, natural handle material-- Micarta is practical as all heck, but I have yet to see one that gave me the "WOW" factor.
I know right!

The more I think about that Essential. The more I want it!
That'd work for me. That would finally give me a reason to get one of those.

If Barlow's are considered .. might I suggest .. as a starting point .. A.G. Russell's Medium Barlow Lockback.
The retail price tells me one could afford fancy scales & a unique etch .. and remain within the stated boundaries .. < $ 125.
Also, Mr. Russell supplied our first club knife. He has a positive history with IKC.
Stag scales would certainly be cool. The bolster offers an easily accessible and spacious area for an aftermarket etch.I own one of these .. RUS-CB13ER .. in Ebony Rucarta™. I'm very pleased with the knife. I really appreciate the attention to detail in this design. The pin that stops the inward travel of the blade so the cutting edge never contacts the backspring. The coil spring under the lockbar which provides a secure lock while simultaneously requiring less force on the lockbar to unlock .. facilitating one hand closure. The crisp notch in the blade .. crisp enough to catch the thumbpad .. facilitating one hand opening.
I also like the wider blade. It accents the deep hollow grind and compliments the traditionally strong barlow handle with a substantial blade.
The quality is everything you'd expect from A.G. Russell .. first rate. I unreservedly recommend the model .. should a traditional barlow be the ultimate choice.
I do like that BR Essential but I'd be fine with the Barlow. I agree with those who stated - Nothing from China!!! One question though - is the spear blade set in stone or could we go with a clip blade?
Heard from Ms Jennie this morning and she will have us priced out by weeks end! Still waiting to hear from others
Who else did you ask?
I mean......they do nice work at Queen and all.. But that would be the 3rd Queen knife in 3 years. A bit much maybe?
Alexander,
I am also awaiting Bark Rivers response.
Yes this would be the third year of having Queen produce our knife, each with a different and distinct tang.
I would love to be able to approach all makers and promise 250 made, giving me the opportunity to widen your choices. Companies willing to work with us at a 50-100 knife range, not just stamp our name on the blade but actually make it unique to iKC, are rare. A company does not make too much out of a run like that.
CANAL ST makes an excellent club knife. very easy to appraoch. i own a few canal st pieces.
4 of them are club knives and all of them came from runs of either 100 or 50. they had all the "treats" from their own labeled box to etch and tang stamps ectect... the best part was the one year the knife came in at 4$ less then the current production model...that was awesome!.. .. i had to do a quick edit as i also have another one that came in at 6$ less then productiion..and now that i look at the rest and the prices.. most dont seem off at all compared to the current production models.thats not just CSCC either.
anyway..... just IMO!...
i would give em a ring if you havent... chcek em out!
