Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Anyone got anything special planned by way of knife purchases in the coming year. As it is only my second year of being a knife collector rather than a person who just has a few , one or two , knives about him.  I was thinking of planning this years knives ,I don't really believe this will make it past March ! I have a Bill Ruple Trapper on the way, and a lovely looking thing it is too. Anyway having become a steel snob as well as a knife collector I am thinking that I should try a Falkniven , I suppose I should go for the slipjoint as locking knives are bad news here in the UK. They aren't illegal but you are supposed to be able to prove that you have a valid use for one if the police should catch you carrying one . An Enzo slipjoint may join it cos they do them with a Scandi grind and I don't have one. In one week Queen are telling us what they are planning for 2015 . Well I would like a large Stockman or Cattle King in ATS34 with a nice set of Rams Horn handle scales ,  thanks very much Mr Daniels .  As I said I doubt that this list will survive in it's current state for too long , but it's a start. Anything that I should look out for ? Have you got anything interesting planned ?

Well, I guess I am going to have to pull in my horns.  I just added up and so far in 2015 I have bought 10 knives, a tie tack/pin shaped like a Buck 110, and a flashlight.  All from eBay for a total of $208.29.

The knives are:

Small Frost pen knife

Hammer Brand fish knife

Brooks & Dunn Case Mini Blackhorn

Volunteer Firefighters Case Mini Blackorn

Jowika Ireland fish knife

Dale Earnhardt Case Mini Blackhorn

Ulster fish knife

Stag Ireland fish knife

John Deere Case Mini Blackhorn

National Wild Turkey Foundation Case Mini Blackhorn

All I have is 1 Fallkniven U1 on it's way across the Atlantic , must try harder .

My problem is that I buy too many.  I need to sell some at this point!

After keeping my purchases in check for about six months, I started another buying binge just after Thanksgiving.  My favorites from this recent buying spree are:  a Kershaw Lahar (new 'old stock' find!), a Spyderco Gayle Bradley in M4 and a Lone Wolf CrossCurrent.

I've been EDC'ing a little SOGzilla lockback for the past couple of weeks that I picked up on sale and didn't expect to like very much - and I've been surprised by how well I do like it.  Not going to replace my RAT 1 or ZT 0550 or anything, but it's light, rides well in my pocket and cuts well so far.

I am looking forward to your thoughts on this one John!

Saving up my spare change for the Dalton show.

Next purchases will be there...

My resolve has faltered badly, since last month.

3 Svord peasent knives, my Oar Carver from last weekends carving show, and now I've got a  plain Jane (G-10) seahorse moving through channels, enroute to me, as of today.

Dalton can't come too soon...

I will give a full report as soon as it lands Jan, current location is O'Hare Int, Chicago. I am interested in trying the 3G steel it's supposed to be very good !

Full size Peasant JJ or the mini , I have been meaning to get one of the mini's for sometime now. There is always more knives to buy !

Actually, John, I got a couple of each.
2 full size with the metal handles, zinc plated steel and gold andonized.
2 minis, white and black poly.
I can recommend the minis, if for no other reason than that they're fun. Check my photos for the mod.m

I will check your photo's JJ , those mini's look a better fit in the pocket to me.

John, four of the nine were inexpensive (below $20). Of the other five, three were must haves so there were only two that were impulse purchases. Actually one impulse because the other was a folding storage carrier. I ran out of room and needed to get some off my desk.

One of the must haves, I'd been looking for over a year and hadn't seen any. When this one in factory condition popped up, I had to strike while the iron was hot. One of the others was offered at below what they normally go for so what's a fella to do?

And so it goes. All the traditional collectors excuses apply here.

I'm with you Jay, I really have to start selling some of my knives -- & 2015 will be the year for that!

But I'm really hoping to expand my bushcraft-type collection.  I really want to make my first Enzo purchase -- some gorgeous little knives there.  TOPS HOG 4.5 will fall under this category too.  Hoping to pick up my first Wetterlings of some variety this year (& to actually put it to some use -- though going that far I might consider a Gransfors).  Maybe a Helle too -- & then there's that Condor Village Parang.  The Spyderco Serrata.  An LT Wright, (&/)or maybe another Battle Horse.  And a Bahco Laplander 9" saw...

The more I think about this, the more expensive 2015 is starting to look...  :(

And :)

!

One so far this year but that is soon to change! The SFOs are starting to call out to me once again.
