Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

As 2016 nears, let's take a look at what 2015 meant to everyone.  OK, I'll start

Over this year I have watched collections and families grow.  I have learned more about collectors and learned it only changes slightly by region of the world.

  • Fiddleback forge announced their first production knives
  • Spyderco expanded their US operations
  • Queens new tang stamp defines the Daniels Family Cutlery Era
  • Knife World became Knife magazine
  • Southern Grind and the knife world lost Rodney Shelton
  • Canal Street closes
  • Boothill Blades made an entry into the world
  • One of few surviving Sheffield knife makers passed away, Trevor Ablett

outside of the knife world

  • The confederates took a hit from the USA that they had not seen in 100 years
  • A terror group grew
  • The strongest hurricane on record made landfall
  • The Duchess of Cambridge Gives Birth to a Girl
  • New Horizons Spacecraft Reaches Pluto
  • Bruce Jenner did away with being a man as on came the I would rather be a _____  phenomenon

On a personal note

  • I learned to cook on a wood stove
  • I enjoyed 4 true seasons for the first time in over 25 years
  • Donnie and my brother suffered heart attacks, both are fine
  • I forged a knife (with a lot of help from my friends)

I have had such an amazing year, watching iKC gain new members and welcome others home.  I have learned so much by hosting the contests and following the results.  Gus brought back the chat formats on Wednesday nights and that is always a fantastic learning experience.  Not only during his chat time but afterwards when you tell us about your knives.

Life is short my friends, learn something everyday.  Appreciate our fellow collectors, regardless of what they collect.  Learn a new skill, sharpen your knives, build that sheath, get the concealed carry you have been wanting.

GO TO A KNIFE SHOW !  Shake the hand of your favorite dealer, meet that iKC or FB friend you enjoy.  Meet the maker of your favorite knife.  Find that knife that has alluded you.

OK NOW IT IS YOUR TURN, TELL ME ABOUT YOUR YEAR

Added a few more knives to the collection this year. Still enjoy collecting as much as ever. Still have that itch for certain knives.

Cutlery wise I have very little news.

On a personal front,

- I decided that I really can't afford to do much collecting and sold 99% of my collection.

- Had a great knifeshow the Netherlands in April where I sold more than the 2 previous knifeshows combined.

- Made some redicilous bowies and big knives

- Made LOT'S of pocket fixed blades.

- Made a knife especially for me. Something that I'd not ever done so far. (It's been in my pocket ever since)

- Attended another knifeshow in November where I sold poorly but was able to attend with my wife wich made up for the poor sales. Also we got to meet some amazing knifemakers like Dennis Muira and Gaétan Beachamp

- Started learning French

- Learned all sorts of new work related skills.

- Finished up a whole load of custom knife orders with (they tell me) happy customers.

- As of last week I have no custom orders (sent out the last one) which is a first for the whole year for me. So maybe a better way of saying might be: I had custom knife orders all year through.

So knifewise I've had a pretty good year!

Frank,

Glad to hear you are still enjoying collecting and still looking forward to the next one!

Alexander,

A good many makers that I know sold large parts of their collection to keep things going while getting their names known.  Not a permanent situation I am sure, but I am also sure when you get back to it, your collection will change directions.

I am so proud to be an owner of an early Noot.  Your skill has vastly increased and it shows in the projects you are taking on with confidence.  It also shows in the fact that you have had custom orders through out the year.  May 2016 bring you much success and some more time to spend with the Mrs!

Just one more day
