The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Hi all. I'm just a novice at forums, so please forgive me.
I need help identifying a Case XX Knife. Similar to a case slimline. Note typical 1992 tang stamp, other side is blank, no model number. Slimlines are 4 1/8in, this is a hair over 3 1/2. Been in family awhile, was an everyday carry for many years as can be seen by the pocket wear. I was told by one that it might be promotional knife. Most I have shown it to are stumped because of its size. Please let me know if you can help. Thanks much
Hi Ron - Welcome to iKC! We're glad you're here.
I read your bio on your home page and I had a Polish moment. I had to look up "shooting offhand" to understand just what that is, becaue I am almost embarrassed to share my first thoughts when I read it. Yep, I actually thought for a split second, "wait, what? This guy likes to shoot his hand off?" I know...but sometimes the initial thought reaction is faster than the common sense.
As for your knife - full disclosure....I am not a Case collector, or a folder guy. While I respect those who are, I'm more of fix blade guy. However, research is research - it doesn't know the difference between a fixed blade or a folder. I have a few ideas for you.
If you haven't already done so, I recommend you join the Case Fans gropup. It's a small group of only 380+ members. Submit this post in that group as well to gain a wider coverage of your request. This current posting will roll down the Latest Activity thread pretty quick and out of view. Plus, the advantage of joining the Case Fan group is that you get to see who the other members are.
Next - with the member info, you can review the photos of some of these members to see if they might have something like your knife. For example - iKC member Mike Bryant has a boatload of Case knives and some really great photos. Click on his name on any of the more recent postings he has made under the Latest Activity thread over here on the right to visist his home page and review his photos.
Spoiler alert - I already did that to see if he has anything like yours already published. While I didn't see anything, that doesn't mean he dosen't know anything about your knife. Leave him a comment and ask - he's pretty good about responding. Repeat the process with other member's collections until you get some responses. Feel free to leave any comments along the way if something stikes you...we all love visitors to our photos who leave comments of envy and appreciation!
Next - slap in some "Case" words in the search bar up above at the very top right of the page next to your name/sign out. Sometimes you can find something that is Case related but is not in the Case group...it could be someone asking a similar question, or a side discussion about handle material, stuff like that.
It's all about the digging until you find what you need.
I hope this helps...
Lars
Hey Lars, Thanks for the reply and useful pointers. As I am new to this forum stuff. I will work on spreading my question around.
And no! I haven't shot my hand off yet. I am an avid target shooter. Standing up, off hand with no supports, slings or braces, at long distances. Ever heard of metallic silhouettes? It's quite a fun game. Instant gratification when lead hits and knocks down steel. Also fun is NRA light rifle. Check out rbgc.org river bend gun club for details about each and more.
Never been much for that social media stuff, but this seems very friendly indeed.
Thanks again
I replied over on the Case Fans thread too. This was a series that came out in the 90's, I compare them to the "lite" series that Buck has. Looks like yours is a "mini trapper", or an '07 pattern. Look to the back side of the tang, there should be some numbers stamped on it telling you all you need to know.
first number = handle material
second number = number of blades...in this case 1
last series of numbers..either 2 or 3 numbers = the pattern....I'm guessing 07 in your case.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for your reply. Added reverse side of tang to album. No numbers present.
I believe to be the mini trapper, '07 pattern. But that's pretty much all I know. I have however reached out to folks on another Forum to help get more information. I'll share as it come's through.
Thank you all! CASE XX LT107SS is the model found one identical, finally. The LT for handle material is what threw me off.
Thank you again,
Ron
Glad you found it Ron!
