difference between a ZT 0550 and a ZT O551?

Yes.  The 0550 has a blade made of  Vanax  Steel and a diagonal patterned G-10 scale.

The 0551 has an Elmax blade and a brick patterned G-10 scale.

They both have Ti lockbar sides.

Thanks Ron!!

I recently ordered a CQC 15 but as I look at these frame lock super knives my interest grows. I was going to “Pimp” my emerson but I might end up saving for a Hinderer. I contacted him and he said 3 inch models are coming in may and XM 24s will follow in june and mid summer comes the 3.5 inch XM 18s. with the LE discount its $350 and its $500 for the XM 24s that is if you are a first responder and eligible for purchase directly from him. I asked him about this and he said my Police Explorer status would suffice.

Chris, I like it fine, it is a very durable folder.  But the precision & pivot doesn't come close to a true Hinderer.  Of course, neither does the price tag.  If I were you and I could wait, I'd dispense with the 0551 and wait for the 0561.  With its KVT washer, that should be THE collaboration knife.  If you must have an 0551, make me an offer :-).

Hey Ron! Great pic with Rick! And groovy photo of your collection! How do you like the ZT Hinderer? I've been cruising for one...but each time I get ready to buy, the store is sold out!

Chris, just tighten the pivot screw a smidgen and it should take care of everything.  Turn the screwhead on the G-10 scale side rather than the Ti lockbar side.  If all tolerances are correct, you should mot need anything to prevent nut rotation on the Ti side.  You will almost certainly overtighten so then just back off to where it feels just right to you.

What a fantastic weekend!  Picked up 3 new 24's (one is a custom), took the TDI knife course, Watched Rick make a couple of blades and got treated to Hospitality Hinderer Style!

Thanks, Steve! I think that mine has the Latrobe Duratech steel.

Thanks for confirming that I've got a Gen 3, Ron. I love it. The way that it fits my hand...is really better than anything else out there. I have my pocket clip oriented for tip down. I do this because the blade retention is actually pretty poor; the blade can swing out of the handle very easily. I suppose that I could tighten the pivot? It seems to me that the detent should really hold the blade shut. Do your Hinderers do this?

Although, the hardware does not look contemporary.  Rick is using flat washers and bolt heads now.

Yes, Chris, that's a Gen 3 and a beauty at that.  Enjoy!
