Price guide for newbies

I wanna get a good price guide to help down this well I seem to thrown myself into. For now I am collecting mostly boker and eye brand knives, so I would want a book that covered those brands. Any suggestions are appreciated.

a good one Blades Guide to Knives & Thier Values. Honestly though, the values move so quickly these days, I use eBay as a price guide in most cases. Look up any knife and most likely you will find enough that you can get a medium value

I think knife prices, as a hole, are down right now. When the economy picks up, I believe prices of knives will to. This is just an opinion.

When it comes to used knives it all comes down to condition, condition, condition!

I hate to say this but experience and research it truly the best teacher when it comes of pricing the value of a knife. And a good place for experience is "WATCHING" a lot of the bidding on eBay and not BUYING simply because you're afraid you'll never see the knife again. "One of Kind vintage knives" often turn out to be a "dime a dozen." As for research there really are no short cuts. READ, READ, READ!

Another thing to consider is ask people you trust about the value of a knife you're looking at. (you're doing that already!) Personally I believe the values you read in the print guides are one person's or one groups opinion and my experience is these prices are often higher than the going prices on eBay.

I see plenty of people TRYING sell knives at the book value with a "Buy it Now" auction and they normally do not sell. I'd knock off at least 25% of whatever the book values says, especially in today's market.

And as with the people who right the books, this is just my OPINION! But it based on several years of buying on eBay and a whole heck of a lot reading and researching.

When I was a boy, I collected coins. There is a Red book, price guide that list the most popular coins, their date, their condition and their price for each condition. It to, priced the value of coins a little high. It was a guide, that would help you determine the price drop from each condition. Say from Extra Fine to Good.

Value is determine two ways, one is what it should be worth and the other is what will someone pay. Usually the price someone will pay is lower, than the book value. I think the more they will pay is determined by the economy and how much the collectors want a particular knife and how many are available for sale.

Tobias, gives some great advise, when he says "Watch and Read". The more you learn in this hobby, the more you realize "you have a lot more to learn".
