Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I have been told there is more than one way to skin a cat.  It has been suggested that if I am lucky enough to see and shoot this cat while deer hunting, I should make something out of his fur.

I thought it would make a good discussion to have my fellow iKC members (most of whom I am sure are much more knowledgeable about this than I am) help me decide which of my knives would be the best to skin this cat.  I have never tried to skin a cat so all suggestions are welcome.

Of the knives I have I think one of these three would be the best for the job if it comes to pass.  All opinions as to which would be best are welcome.

I'm thinking this Buck 393 Omni Hunter might be a little large for the job.

This Browning DX Model 514 might be a better choice.

Would this little Frost fixed blade be suitable to skin this cat?

All of these knives would work.  I have a friend who's Dad field dressed a mule deer with a nail and a pair of pliers.  So would say any of these knives work.

A Muskrat would do the job very well.

I know some areas of the country, where Bobcat hunting would be consdiered poaching so I had to look it up.  I'm guessing you're in Alabama, Charles.

Alabama Bobcat hunting restrictions:

BOBCAT

No Bag Limit - Daylight Hours Only - Guns only in areas of and during dates of turkey and/or gun deer season. Bow and Arrow - in areas of and during dates of open bow and arrow seasons for deer and turkey.

DOGS ONLY - NO GUNS OR BOW AND ARROW OR CROSSBOW- No Closed Season except no running of dogs during daytime or after 3:00 A.M. during and in areas of spring turkey season.

NOTE: See "Tagging Requirements" under trapping seasons.

You are right Tobias.  I am in Alabama.  So if I see him while deer hunting he is legal.

BTW, which of the three knives do you think would work best to skin that cat?

Well Charles you have quite the selection to chose from....so I think the Little Frost knife would be the ticket....not unless you use one of the fine Case Trappers or the Muskrat as Ken Spievogel mentioned....good luck and keep us posted....

Ken the only problem is I don't have a Muskrat.  Would that be a good excuse to buy one? LOL

Indian, I do have some very nice Case trappers but they are part of my collection and I want to keep them mint and unused.

Well there you go...now you have to look for a knife that will be an all around user and not a show piece....lol...you know a small critter knife......

Well Charles that cat sounds like a good reason to buy a rat!

At the risk of counting hens before the eggs hatched, I suggest you go for a Westlock  521 Bobcat skinner,.

Tobias, that is a neat knife.  And I like the deer etched one that goes with it.  If I did get it, I don't know if i could bring myself to actually use it! LOL

But since I have already put down a deposit to have a custom knife made that is going to cost about $200 and since I just ordered a Case knife from Shepherd Hills, I had probably better pass on those.  Even though I would like to have them!
