Hot off the press- Kinfolks Knives by Dean Case

While not all the members are early American cutlery company history buffs, and I wasn't either when I first got serious about collecting knives, and yet, getting a glimpse of the life and times of those early days helps round out our understanding of many of the How and Why's of knife company history and knife collecting today.

I've just finished reading Dean Case's new book- Kinfolks Knives, A History of Cutlery And Cousins. Dean is the great-great-grandson of Job Case- the patriarch of Case knives, and the other 32 different knife companies his descendants were involved in. Even though I'm not a Kinfolks collector, I love the history of all the Case family and learning what things were like behind the scenes to help fill in the blanks of those early days.

Brad Lockwood, author of Tested XX- The Case Cutlery Dynasty, sets the tone right off in his opening of this book and from there, Dean outlines Kinfolks origin and the players (the cousins) who founded the firm, and why yet another "Case" cutlery company.

You don't have to be a Kinfolks collector to enjoy reading his account. Thanks Dean for preserving yet another chapter of knife company history for us!

Check out Dean's website for more information on this firm and to grab you a copy.
