Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Hi folks, I have had this knife in my collection for years. I picked it up out of an old abandoned house when I was a kid up in ND. If I remember correctly, there were other old war realated items left in the abandoned house along with this. There is no name or mark left on the knife. Any idea who made this, when it was made, what it is worth? Was this an old Army knife issued during WWI or WWII? Thanks in advance for any help!

J.P.-At this point, I have more questions than answers.First question- Is that top strap on the sheath an actual button type opening or a snap? Second question- Is it a true double edged dagger with two sharpened edges? Thirdly, can you post a pic or 2 of the sheath by itself?- The relatively unusual sheath design may reveal more clues than the knife itself. My first impressions are that your knife is handmade ,based on the hammer marks on the balls on the crossguard etc. Not a production knife for the military in the wars, but possibly a knife made for a serviceman in one of the wars.Issued knives came in short supply, and many  a knife maker made knives for a serviceman, either a family member or by request, often to the soldier's specifications. The sheath intrigues me, as it has the general appearance of a South American Gaucho style knife sheath. Not saying that it is, just that it loosely resembles their style. I'll keep digging and any additional answers from you may help.

Thanks for your reply John, my apologies for not getting back to you sooner.

Yes, the knife does look to be handmade.  The button on the sheath strap is unusual, and the sheath is actually one piece in that it folds over from the belt loop part and threads back down through the bottom part.  I have no idea on how to price this piece or find more info on the maker or what this thing is!  I just know it is a really nice knife:)  The blade is not a full double sided dagger, just the top 2ish inches are tapered and sharpened.  Where do I go from here on this one?

Thanks,

Jans
