The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
I'm not sure if there is a discussion already or not but show 'em if you got 'em. Let's see you fishing knives, as in the tools of the tackle box! (Folding, fixed, multi-tools, etc.)
Here's a few of my latest finds. What made them interesting is the bale.
Above knife is made by Sabre (Japan) It features yellow comp handles and is just over 5 inches closed. Below is another Japanese made knife. It features the infamous "cracked Ice" plastic pearl handles. I couldn't pass it up for $9 simply because of the scissors and the bale. It is 4 inches closed.
Both knives in a side by side comparison
Tobias I have always loved the fly fishing knives. I always wanted one but we stopped fly fishing years ago. Now that we are in the mountains maybe we can take that back up in our spare time LOL. If we can I am getting one!!!
After weeks, perhaps months of looking for a decent Colonial Fish-Knife at a reasonable price on eBay, I stumbled across the beauty below at the Swap-O-Rama in Alsip, Illinois on Saturday Morning. I found it just as I was preparing to leave! Not your typical Colonial Fish Knife but then that just adds to its awesomeness!
At almost 5 1/4 inches closed this is a big coke bottle! The green and black swirl tortoise shell celluloid is nicely pinned and has little or no shrinkage. These date from the 1920s-30s.
Blades are nice and tight with no wobbles and excellent snap opening and closing. Really nice patina with no rust. Someone really took care of it.
A pictures of the reverse side with the big 4 1/4 inch clip blade all the way open. The knife is 9 1/2 inches open.
The scaler/degorger/cap-lifter combo blade.
I have a new favorite Fish-Knife! The seller was asking $18. I offered $15 and we settled on $16. Someone on eBay is trying to get $97 for a similar Colonial. Other than one, this is the only one I've seen.
Tobias,
Now that was a FIND!! Great condition and ready for use!
Rob,
They are great looking! I like the nail nick position in the colonial best I think
Very cool collection, Rob. I will be keeping my out for more of them - that's for sure!. A couple more fish knives and I think it they will over-take my camp knife collection! (They already do if I include my five inch toothpicks with in the fish knife pattern or if I include my fixed blade fish knives!)
Nice knives guys!
Thanks!
I agree with you on the nail pull, Jan. But, do like the swedge grind on the Imperials.
That is a beauty Tobias, is it a newer one, or do we know the production year?
Well there are so many places to post pictures.
I posted my fish knives over at Knives of the Great Outdoors/Pictures of Fishers, Scouts,Campers, Sailors and Hobos.
So if you would look over there you can see a few of mine.
I posted a Western, a L.L. Bean and some others.
Have enjoyed looking.
Thanks
