Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Over the last week I acquired 4 blade blanks for customization. The materials they use for their "S" line of products are 440C, manufactured in China.

The ones I selected are pictured below:

The top one will definitely receive a Stag taper handle, the Guthook blank will receive a Purpleheart Wood scales w/ Pink liners(for the younger niece). The bottom 2 are to be more detail specific in the handle materials. I would like some ideas on the materials for those, but keep in mind my skill level when making those suggestions. Novice.

Part Deux:

The knife Fairy brought these to me Tuesday:

I am kind of feeling the pressure to do the Subhilt some real justice. Keeping my fingers crossed that no frivolous errors occur.

The wood and buffalo are reserved for the Sub hilt.

Man O Man will that subhilt be beautiful

Knife Fairy left this on my desk today.

1/4" Mosaic pin. It looks girly enough for a Purpleheart wood handled guthook hunter. Right? Those look like flowers?

Brad, I like that a whole bunch !! I not only think it would look great with the purpleheart guthook, it is one of the nicest mosaic pins I have seen in general !! Nice choice !!

Now I have just got drill out the hole in the blank handle to 1/4", it is actually at .2235.

Handles and pins glued, will sit until Monday. It is turning out okay so far.

Okay, I pulled the clamps off this morning and did some finish sanding and here is what I have left.

Looking good, Brad.

I did learn that I should check the pin positions before leaving the epoxy to set. They are not positioned symmetrically.

Been there and done that with the pins. A mistake many of us have made on our early lnives- Had it occured to me I would have warned you ahead of time. The  guthook looks great-My only suggestion would be since this is for a young niece, some further sanding with microfine grit would make that purpleheart shine like a new penny !! Might make it a little more "girl desirable" --

I am sorry, I don't understand what you mean about pin positions?

Robert,

I believe what Brad means is that the patterns on the mosaic pins do not align with each other. If you'll notice the diamond shape in the center of the pin you can see how they are offset from each other, ever so slightly. For instance, if you have a line like this on one pin --- and then the other pin has a line like this \ you can see how they are not aligned with each other. This is what he's talking about with his pins not being symmetrical. The pins should look like this to be perfect ---  ---

The diamonds are not PERFECTLY aligned with one and other.

I hope that helps you to understand what he means?

BTW ~ Brad, I think it looks terrific and you have learned another lesson along the way to becoming the ever elusive Perfectionist. The learning curve is a hard pitch to hit! lol

Cheers!

Brad, she is going to love it!

So, how are the blades treating you?  Is working with them pretty easy?  Are you feeling good with the finished products?
