Toby,
I feel your pain...
New Rough Riders are in, aside from a pair of nail clippers, I'm not aware of a new pattern.
I have my fingers crossed, but so far all I've seen is the nail clippers and the Moby Dick clasp knife. It is laser scrimshawed with a whaling scene on it.
While it looks nice, I'm really hoping for new scout knives or five inch toothpicks. I'm very much assuming I'll be disappointed. I also seriously doubt a new RR marlin spike will surface.
I've been on a serious knife buying slump this summer and Rough Rider isn't helping me one Iota. I need more than a Toad Sticker and nail clippers. (sigh)
I agree Robert. I LOVE the look of the old "vintage" knives! Waaay back when I used to do rehandling and repairs, I used a grinder that attached to a heavy duty drill!!! It worked great! Guys used to ask me if I had a grinder that cost hundreds of dollars!
I'm not sur eI want a swedge on every blade. While it is appealing, if it were on all RR we'd probably be drooling over the plain style blade if they all the swedge. Plus, I don't know if I would want a sheepfoot or coping blade with the swedge.
I agree with you Ivars, I love a swedge on a blade. There's too many knife companies that make a great handle on a knife but with a plane jane blade. Look at alot of the vintage knives, they had swedges. Sorry to hear about the cost of a belt sander. Mine cost about 80 USA dollars, not the best but a good little sander for the price.
Hello all,got my first RR moose in brown jigged bone, very well made solid knife, love the swedge on the main blade.
Ivars, If you feel that you do need a nail pull, don't worry about trying to keep the factory one, Cut your own with a cutting wheel or an abrasive stone. You just need to have enough gripping area to be able to open the blade. Doesn't have to look pretty, you're modifying it to be used.
One I did from a Steel Warrior.
I really like my RR mods, Ivars, but I'd never pay $50.00 for one.
I've been eyeing the lockback sowbelly as a mod. Looks like the person that reshaped both blades was more concerned with keeping the nail pull. Usually, you don't even need a nail pull, especially on lockbacks.
Do your own mods, Ivars. You'll be better satisfied with the results.
(This is about my favorite RR mod.)
