SMKW had some really great sales starting around Black Friday last year, & some things are still on sale.  I've made more purchases there over the last few months than in all the time since I first heard of SMKW, maybe a dozen years ago.  Thanks for all the sales, SMKW!  I say that both sincerely & sarcastically, as a collector with a limited budget!

It's been a while since we last visited the retail store; does anyone know if SMKW has customer use wheelchairs available?

We're not able to take mine when we go on vacation this year.

Unfortunately, I am a novice at most all of it. I've purchased a couple of items from SMKW w/"0" issues(from my limited knowledge). I'd purchase from them again. Sincerely Randy.

I'm not a Damascus fanatic, not even a carbon steel fanatic. I learned young how to sharpen my tools, so getting SS sharp has never been an issue for me, unlike some who see carbon as superior due to ease of sharpening among other reasons. For me having a tool that won't turn into a rusticle is more important than swirly layers of steel on my blade. I've seen posts and photos of people anxiously watching their carbon knives develop "patina", (huh??); to me clean and corrosion free is much more desirable. Of course if I could get my hands on some good Alabama Damascus it might be a different story.

Steel warriors tend to have thinner blade stocks than Rough Riders. The same is true of the Taylor Brands. (Schrade, old timer, Uncle Henry).

A lot of Frost knives are out of Pakistan, especially those advertised as "German Steel".

Rest assured that most of the Damascus knives are out of Pakistan, regardless if it is Frost or SMKW.

Syd, for the most part all of the Rough Rider, Marbles, and Colt pocket knives made in China are from the same factory and sport 440A stainless. If the fixed blade is out of China it is normally 440a. If it is out of Pakistan it normally 420.

The Combat Ready Knives were initially AUS8. Im not sure now.

But if you're looking at a tradional pattern pocket knife in a SMKW house brand 99% of time it will be 440A unless they started doing something different recently.

Oops, I forgot that Steel Warrior is a Frost brand, NOT an SMKW brand. However, I bet they come from the factory.

I noticed that Tobias. I suspect that ALL SMKW house brands and the Colt-branded knives come from the same factory. Change the tang stamp, shield and handle material and you have an instant "new" Rough Rider, (or Marbles). I would love to know more about their steel, so far the only SMKW brand that advertises 440 w/ a Rockwell test is Steel Warrior, the rest all seem to be using 420 no matter the brand.
