Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

The cicada IS alive (or at least was when I took the photo), & was very tolerant of me taking this photo, knife & all... But there it was, sitting on a sandbag, what was I supposed to do -- NOT take a photo of the cicada with my EDC pocket knife?!?

Kevin, your knowledge of cicadas is clearly impressive -- guessing you have forgotten more about entymology than I will ever know -- despite the fact that I grew up with a dad who collected insects casually, and an uncle who is an expert (but without a degree) -- what little I retained of that knowledge was mostly by osmosis.  Are you an insect hobbyist, or is it professional?  Regardless, I will definitely defer to your identification of this species of cicada!

We were recently in the Kansas City area and experienced a whole different realm (& species) of cicada -- much louder than what we have here in Minnesota, & similar to the cicadas I recall hearing in San Antonio, but also possibly different (if I'm remembering correctly) -- guessing they were of at least one of the species you mentioned.

You never fail to impress, Kevin!

With you being up in Minnesota, I am thinking that the cicada in your photo is the Neotibicen canicularis. I have not had the opportunity to see one of those before.  I have only seen a few types in person.  Neotibicen linnei (Linne's Cicada), Okanagana rimosa (Say's Cicada), and Neotibicen tibicen (Morning Cicada) are the ones I have seen personally.

Lucky you!  Nice looking knife too!

LOL!  I was just going to ask how you got the cicada to pose for you.   :)

Nice work!
