Thankyou Charles..I know the frenchKate that these dompanies are manufacturing now is a copy of an old knife..just not sure how old..this shoe knife is great.. thankyou again ! did nt know if handle was leather or plastic.. but looks like the celluloid held up! great picture !

Jeff, I am sure that it was made before the ones that companies are making now.  My grandmother got the knife in 1904.  It was made by Germania Cutlery Works in Germany.  From what I have read I believe the company operated into the 1920's.

I am just guessing but I think the handle is probably some sort of celluloid.  Disregarding the bail, the knife is 1 3/4 inches closed.

so cool !!  wow.. what a neat looking knife, I have not done any research, but wondering.. was this knife before the {shoe knife} that many companies {including great eastern} are making now.? Great photo ! Great knife ! thanks Charles .
