California to Atlanta and back again (I hope)

While on my way back east to help my ailing sister I happened upon this place along Interstate 40 in Arizona. I managed to not spend any money, but believe me it was hard. Knowledgeable staff with a wonderful inventory of US-made knives, many hard to find special editions from every US manufacturer, (and more). Unfortunately their prices were a tad high for my budget, but my wish list at least doubled that's for sure. Nothing matches seeing a knife in person, they never look the same online, no matter how fine of a photo. Got to hold a Case Seahorse Whittler for the first time, a knife I have coveted for some time, and it was all that I expected, (but more than I could afford; I continue to covet).. However, I need to get to Georgia and back again, so indulging my knife addiction wasn't something I could do just now. Oh well, at least I know where to go when I can indulge myself.

After I get my sister secured and stable I intend to go up to TN and visit SMKW also during this trip; I'll take some photos there too and will post them here.

Jan, I'll give you a call after I get to ATL and settle in. What I do and when I do it depends on her, but hopefully I'll see you soon.

The two photos below show Case Special Editions from past years, on...

Dunno about you, but I was impressed.Clean, well displayed sharp things, if you look closely you can see...

Internet, finally! Now I don't have to rely on others PC's and can post a photo of the fabulous Trestle Pines Portage. I'll try to take some better photos as soon as I can get a break from being a 24/7 caretaker for my sis, but this gives a good idea of how cool this knife is. The handle pins are smoothed down to the point that a blind person couldn't tell they are there, the transition between handle and bolster is almost as seamless. It has a pull of around a six, perfect half stop, and the blade.....what can I say about the blade. Having the nail nick where it is gives the knife a very distinctive look. Close inspection reveals small "tells" that the knife was hand made, and hand made very well; a piece of industrial art actually. Trestle Pines advertises their knives as being "made to use", and despite my impulse to put it on a shelf to preserve it, I think I will do what TP suggests and will make this knife a user. The 154CM blade is razor sharp, the liners are brass as well as the pins. Handle material is "old growth" ash, and it feels like silk in my hands.

Thanks to Greg at TSA Knives LLC for a great contest, I am absolutely thrilled with my new knife.

Finally arrived in Atlanta, waitimg for my sister's homecoming tomorrow. I am using her hard wired PC to post this as her wi fi ain't wi fying, so unfortunately I can't post photos just yet of the Trestle Pines Portage Barlow w/prehistoric Ash handles which I won from TSA Knives. I had Greg ship it here when I knew I was going to be away from home for an extended time, (didn't want to have to wait to see it), and it was waiting for me at my sister's place in Atlanta when I arrived. I'll post pics as soon as I can get my laptop up and running, until then go to TSA's website and check out all of the Trestle Pine knives.......They are simply awesome. I think the one I got is the finest piece of cutlery I have ever had in my hands, it is simply a stunningly beautiful knife. Stay tuned for photos.

Yup, been wanting a wharmcliffe blade, and the Seahorse Whittler is the one I want. It's on the top of my want list, but now having seen it in person I want it more of course. Priority is to get to my sister on this trip, plus I'm sure I can find a better deal online, but it was nice to see one and feel how it fits in my hand, (perfectly). One of these days.

Off and running, hoping to make Little Rock today. Cheers.
