The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
The wife and I where discussing my knife collection. She thinks I'm going a little overboard so we came up with a new rules.
If I buy a knife and I already have one of the same pattern I need to sell one.
The way to get around this is. I got her to agree that I could have more than one if I'm using one for a edc.
Another way to get around this is she does not tell me what to price them for. So I can just price them high enough that if a person does buy them I can get a real nice one to replace it with.
Also there are the knives that I buy just to resell. They don't count !
Now I know that I want to upgrade some knives in my collection and as I buy new ones I need to get rid of a few old ones.I also love to get new patterns.
I think I have this all figured out but for some reason I have a feeling that something is not going to work out. She has got to have a trick up her sleeve. She just agreed to easy and I have never been able to get one over on her yet.

Rules?? Seriously? My dear wife has never said a thing about my knives. If I want to buy 30 of one patter, so be it. If I want to buy and expensive knife (GEE that would be a treat) I can do so. My knives are rapidly taking over our guest room AKA the Cutlrery Cave but that's OK by her. I sometimes have knives on towels on the dining room table that I'm cleaning that I picked up at a yard sale and that's OK with her too as long as the table is cleared and all my toys are put away in time for the kids to come over for dinner.
But this is a great give and take situation. You see, my wife loves to quilt. I take her to Amish country to buy special pattern cloth. I take her to the fabric stores and tell her to take her time. I always bring a couple of knife catalogs and sit in the car and patiently wait for her. She sometimes has the dining room table set up to cut fabic and layout patterns. Fabric and QIP (quilts in progress) are stacked in the dining room and I also built her a sewing room after our son moved out. (LESSON, when a kid moves out, IMMEDIATELY convert their old room into something else without a bed. This discourages any returns.) Therefore, she has her quilts and sewing and I have my knives. We each have our own rooms and share a common area, at least until meal time. We have never had a disagreement over hobby or space. Am I the luckiest gut around town or what??! Rules? If you have them in your household and it works for you, then by all means go for it. However, be careful when they say "sure thing, honey" and look at you with that certain ominous stare.
I have just ONE rule; do whatever Cass tells me. Well, it's her rule, but.....
Well said, Ivars. Good buddy!
Yes, there is a lot worse things a person can do than collect knives. I have always said this , and a person that buys a $10 or $100 or $1000 knife, it all about the enjoyment not the price. Please, forgive me, if I'm preaching..........................lol
You know when someone asks her about my collection she always tells them. At least he's not in a bar !!!
Honestly guys before I became a "collector" I always figured there were worse thing he could be doing. As long as we can pay the bills...by a knife, honey
I try to spend more time looking and educating my self on the knife I want to buy, than really buying.
Guy's I was married for 42 years and I only won, one disagreement. Now, I can't remember, what it was about. If, I get to Heaven, I'm gonna find out. I might have lost that one too.........I figure, it's a man's world, run by "Women"....lol
"A wife with a trick up her sleeve? Say it isnt so" LOL!!!
No, no, no.......there's no rules in knife collecting! I'm having a nervous breakdown just reading about rules!
