Self DefenseWeapons-luxury or neccesity?? You Decide--

Let me preface this by saying I am a typical 60 year old law abiding citizen-In my 20's I worked as a bartender, then in retail management until my retirement- However, I have had people try to kill me with a car ,boulders, knives, hatchets, etc. in what would seem to be a normal life-Not to mention, that Danny Rollings, the Florida serial killer who killed U of Florida coeds was captured in my yard !! I have had to defend myself twice with a gun, once with a knife, and once with a (imaginary gun)- long story --Never hurt anyone in any of these encounters, but being armed saved my bacon more than once- Am I just the unluckiest guy on earth, or have any of you other folks had hair-raising encounters like this??

Comment by Alexander Noot on May 14, 2014 at 1:23: Sounds like you're pretty unlucky to me. I've had to fight my way out of a few situations when I was younger but none of them (or me) was carrying weapons.

There was a carload of young punks in an area on our farm where they had no business being late at night. To make a long story short, Dad blocked their car with ours. They became very belligerent and threatening with Dad. It is amazing the transformation in attitude that a .45 in the face makes. They suddenly became very docile and accommodating. After Dad determined that they hadn't done anything (yet) he let them go. Who knows what the outcome might have been without the .45 in Dad's hands.

In Memoriam Comment by Robert Burris on May 13, 2014 at 19:29: I have had a few bad encounters, as you say, but I really don't want to talk about them I can tell you this though, to be armed and know how to use a gun or knife is a huge advantage when the chips are down. A persons size and hand to hand training can be of little use, when a weapon is mixed in.

Battered, not broken !! I did not even know this idiot !! For some strange reason, he thought I was a narcotics officer, trying to arrest him !!

2021 Calendar Comment by Steve Scheuerman (Manx) on May 13, 2014 at 18:32: I guess being 6'1 and 220lbs is deterrent enough for me. Had a couple times when my EDC was a comforting friend just in case, but never had to pull it.
