Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Some of the groups we have been hosting will be deactivated, beginning this week.  We will not lose any information, I will transfer it to another appropriate group.  This is a time consuming project but necessary for a number of reasons.

These groups are not growing and activity is what drives our numbers in the search engines and with new members.  Comments breed comments.

Our hosting provider NING is transitioning us to a new platform next year, dates unknown as of yet.  Although the essential parts of iKC will remain unchanged to you the members, it will change how the internal parts of the site work. Again, it will initially drive more time investment to the managing members.  Good news is, it will give us a mobile friendly site!

If a group is transitioning in this first round, you will see a post in it from me as of this morning.  The post reads

This group will be deactivated on July 4, 2014. As I begin to set us up for transitioning to the new format our provider is offering, we will lessen the amount of groups that we host and those that are not showing activity regrettably will be the ones that need to be deactivated. Thank you for the posting. Not wanting to lose the information from here it will be transferred to ........

Andy,

Thank you for responding.  Right now I have no set plans to move the Randall group.  A good deal of this consolidation is not only to strive for less active groups but also due to changes coming our way and out of our control.  We host through NING and they are changing platforms.  It is great because it will give us a mobile aspect for the site but it also means scaling down a few of our capabilities.  We will not have limitless group capability.

When the transition happens (6-12 months out) I need to be certain we will not lose content.  I had the best time rereading and moving content this weekend.  It would have broken my heart if I had signed on one day and that content only existed on my back up drive.

This has been an on going project for about 6 months already.  We have gone from 120 groups to 80.  Ultimately we may have to reduce to 60.  My main concern is making sure we lose nothing the members have been so good about posting

I agree, the carry and use of many different walks of lives and areas is indeed what keeps internet knife collecting fun.  And I want to see the chick-magnet.  I am willing to bet it works LOL

Jan, I'm not sure about this consolidation. My groups "Randall Knives" and "Axes ...etc" may not be wildly popular for two reasons, first the Randalls are expensive and what person can wait three years or more for anything? I hope you don't drop this, because fewer posts equals smaller HDD area and indexing chores. It seems we should be emphasizing obnoxious twitterroos and twitterinis. People who like Randalls tend to think aabout their comments, and so do people who respond. End of rant.

And my "Axes ... etc" group tries to handle the larger, heavier and I think less-covered blades. Anyway. That group will never generate a lot of useless twitter. All my blades are razor sharp. That is my only advice for anyone.

I carry EDC a 1" Spyderco folder on my keyring, a 3.5" Spyderco Pacific Salt in my left trouser pocket, and a 5.125" fixed Fallkniven in my left rear trouser pocket, and often several more-or-less around my person. Whenever I wear my tuxedo I always carry a tiny 10" long 6oz axe in my breast pocket. It's a babe-magnet. Your carry may vary a lot. That's what makes the Internet Knife Collector an interesting person.

Robert, for each group that has been moved so far I sent a message to all the members where the information went.  All our groups are open and any member may join any group without needing approval.

One of the "missing pieces" is my eyes was a way to find what we were looking for in groups with Multiple types of information in them.  The two that came to mind right off were

The Box of knives = A to Z index

Research & Resources = A to Z index

Alexander,

Life gets that way.  You make them and sell them....tell your buyers to come here and review them

Sorry about the Sharper Review Rob. I want to participate....but knifemaking started taking more and more priority and reviewing knives less and less.

Good question Robert, before I close a group I should send everyone in it an invitation to where the info went
