foreign soil. So while his make me smile with the Norman Rockwell image's he invokes, mine bring a different feeling. The 4th of July is an American tradition. A time where we celebrate our independance as a nation. Our forefathers declared the following:
"And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor."
The 4th of July on a far eastern military base in the 60's was not about the fireworks at the end of the day but about that pledge. About making family celebrations with people you have only know a few months, whose family is thousands of miles away, in many different nations. It was about remembering that the soldiers that came before them were fighting in their own backyard, for the right to govern what happens in that backyard.
So the memories of those 4th of July's are not so much Norman Rockwell as they are of being grateful to those that have and do serve. The smiles and warm feelings that come with this unique holiday are of many different nationalities coming togeather and sharing a day of victory for a nation that just wanted to be free.

I just read this, are you OK? Thats pretty serious stuff. Our prayers are with you for a full recovery. And your correct NO DRINKING AND DRIVING
4th of July I received a trauma to my head, leading to a damage in my hypotalamus. Drunk driver hit me. My life changed forever that moment.
Sorry to not share your national day (I'm Swedish), but please. Care for the others around you if you decide to cut loose and have some fun.
