Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Do you have a favorite, fixed blade or folder? Tell us the one you like the most. I'll start it off by saying I'm a traditional knife fan, guess I'm old fashion.

Ivars, the little town near my house I can walk in the bank with a 9" fixed blade on my side and no one will say anything. Small populations of people live different than those in highly populated areas. It's ashame people can't live in harmony everywhere.

Ivars and Alexander,

I can see then why it would be less complicated to carry a tradtional.  They would view it more like a pocket knife than a weapon.

Alexander- you have made an excellent point, sir. Ivar also. If a law is vague and the cops themselves don't know whether or not or when to enforce it, it is a bad law and needs to be repealed!

It should be a law that for every new law made, five old ones should be repealed. There are presently so many laws that the average person doesn't even know when they are breaking one and neither do those who are trying to enforce them. A screw driver could be a deadly weapon? What about an axe? A baseball bat? Make them illegal too?

Although I'm not from the same area as Ivars I understand where he's coming from.

Although he might be keeping up the law as to the length of the blade. Not all cops know the law very well. In fact for a lot of police officers their knowledge of weapons law is really very bad. You ask one when a blade is legal and they'll all give a bunch of answers they might have heard from their dad, (the length of my palm etc etc) or someone random in the street.

Most of them don't know what the law actually is. It's the same over here in the Netherlands.

That means that a knife that LOOKS non-threatening will be classed as such by a police officer and won't get you into any hot water with them.

Ivars,

That is certainly the perfect arguement in your area to not have the tacticles on you but I wonder why they would question you regarding that knife but not a traditional folder of the same length.  I know, it doesn't have to make sense to be a knife a law...

I never really got around to liking the tactical type knives. I gave it a whirl for a while but just couldn't really form a bond with the knives.

I've tried a number of them that (on paper) should have been perfect for me. But somehow I never really liked them as much.

Now I've just accepted that fact and I'm fully into traditional style knives. Nice lockbacks, slipjoints, fixed blades with a traditional look.

I'm afraid I'm pretty old fashioned too although I admire some of the tactical blades like a Kershaw Leek or Ken Onion CRKT Eros. My basic everyday "tool" though is a Buck Stockman unless I'm camping, then I'm inclined to strap on my Randall Model 5 or a Buck Special 119. I really like stag, jigbone or leather ringed handles as that's what first caught my attention as a kid.

Now that I'm an old "kid", I like the basics even more. It's gotta be pretty to make me wanna buy it.

i like both i think there is a use for both i will carry a tactical in my right pocket for personal defense and a traditional knife for wood carving or small jobs in my left pocket.and if i am heading to the woods i will strap a full tang hunter on my belt.

I wonder if the tactical craze is youth saturated? When I was young there was no tacticales styles like they have today.

I prefer traditional also.  I am actually very traditional, I prefer a good beautiful wood handle and carbon steel.  I am ok with being old fashion, it works well for me
