Great topic Steve!

I hade 2 pocket knives and 2 multitools (wasn't even buying them for collecting) and one day I ended up on YouTube (can't even remember why) watching "knife collecting updates" and from that day forward I was hooked.

Rick, I've often wondered how the media would spin my knife collection if for some reason the Police or Homeland Security ever searched my house!

It would go bad for me, I'm afraid! In our case, sadly , the old guilt by association tag. I feel profiled just toting my pocket clip EDC! Haha, stop profiling knife collectors! , and register the mentally disturbed with all local law enforcement offices. Wow, is that too much common sense, nowadays!

Rick, according to some of our lawmakers, wanting to carry a gun is proof that you must be mentally disturbed and shouldn't have one!

Here is the problem as I see it....My own personal opinion

Our government wants to take guns and knives away from us so that there wouldn't be any more of these shootings and stabbings going on that we are hearing so much about.  The issue is....The folks doing these shootings and stabbings are "CRIMINALS" and they can get access to these whether they are controlled by the government or not.  It is not the Law abiding citizen, the gun and knife collectors and such that are perpetrating these violent crimes.  Maybe it's high time the government does something about the criminals and even restrict people that have mental issues.

Tom

It is easier to regulate access to item than to actually tackle the real problem.  Politicians loves to call the problem plaguing are major cites as  Gun Violence.  The problem used to be called Gang Violence but then community activists, including our President decided that the term gang violence connotes racial profiling.   I have plenty of friends who are Latinos and African American.  Many of them are peaceful gun owners, none of them are in gangs.  It is the politicians and the community activists  that have caused irrevocable damage to race relations by refusing to label problems by the correct term through race baiting and political correctness.  We need to take back our language!

I'm no proponent of knife registration (can you think of all the paperwork we'd be doing?!?!), but "registration" of the mentally ill would be a serious violation of current health confidentiality laws (omitting sex offenders).

Worse, governments have been known to use "mental illness" as another label for political dissident -- or simply those unwanted on the city streets, like the poor & the homeless -- whatever the local or even national authorities want to simply remove from sight.

That said, that woman in Florida might have some issues for which she could use some help -- while all of us here have some knives, I doubt any of us use them to stab & otherwise vandalize the houses of our neighbors.  :(

I'm not going to disagree that the "real problems" are often not addressed in favor of band-aid solutions.  Some of our problems are deeply rooted in societal & individual misconceptions that can't be stopped by passing or repealing this or that law.

But I have to ask -- whose language is it that must be taken back?  And by whom?

I am certainly ill with the current state of "political correctness".  Although I believe in being polite, I think it is time that we can call a terrorist a terrorist without hurting anyones feelings LOL

Jan , Tobias, and everyone, who responded, I've read many great response in this forum today. And We see a problem, with the current government and the current Leader, both seem to be, on a course to change, not just our current American, system of laws and government, but everyone's  way of life, to cancel out individualism, for our collective "good"! . Whatever The "agenda" by our leaders, it's sole purpose is to change,.. every aspect of this country, the norm , the tradition, and the checks and balances are either , politically incorrect, racist, anti-anything, phobic, or unacceptable by all true " citizens" in the know. It's changing "us" to a foreign" system, where any religion is the wrong religion, but the one, they decide is best for us. In the new world , bible readers, church goers, gun owners, knife owners, hunters, sports fans, (yep, sports is too violent), the schools are out of touch with reality, all American history is a lie, little boys aren't boys, girls aren't girls, (they're Zee, Zur and Zo,... look it up). The two political parties don't really matter, nobody in either,  can seem to do anything worthwhile, meanwhile,  the countries infrastructure , it's very stability fails and with it,  the American people's Spirit. I hope we can turn this around,  before it's too late. Have a great weekend!
