One thing I’ve learned from collecting and working around knives is that storage and basic maintenance make a bigger difference than people sometimes realize. Especially with carbon steel and Damascus, keeping the blade clean and dry is important. A light coat of food grade mineral oil can help protect the steel, and I always recommend storing a knife somewhere dry rather than leaving it sitting in a leather sheath for long periods. Natural handle materials need a little attention too. Wood, bone, horn and stag can react to humidity over time, so avoiding prolonged soaking and giving them a little care helps preserve the original fit and appearance. G.C stands for Gutmann Cutlery. Have you any idea of the age of this knife? Probably not actually made by Gutmann, but rather made for Gutmann. Very typical of the Solingen blades known as "Scout Knives" and possibly mid to late 1950's?

Gutman imported many brands into the US
