in new hope ,Pa fred eien has GEC knives you can look at and buy i still belive unless he doenst carry them anymore...and you can visit GEC itself and buy their.

what you need to do...is get in good with a buyer,spend your money with them,find out right when the knives you want are coming out and ask for a stag line up or bone opr what it is your looking for,front,back,and liner shoits..make it easy for seller with knives that sell same day or less.....on knives you know are gonna fly...if your guy is only getting 3 ...if you have been with him awhile and spent $$ ..its like al lbusiness in USA!...you can get choice pick....its gotten alot harder though. this is how i alway s have done it and most my stags rock!

Gary, I definitely agree with you.

Some romance has been lost in the collecting world. GEC has a great online presence with collectors as well as with dealers, but there is nothing like walking into the local hardware store and picking out a new beauty from behind the glass. There are many things that keep this from happening and price point has a major affect I'm sure.

It's not easy for the average joe to walk in and lay down upwards of $70 dollars for a knife and it's tough for businesses to count on the few who do want to spend that much. Anytime you deal with a mortar and brick store, you deal with mark ups and high prices. 

That is one of the great things about having GEC a couple hours away. I can walk in anytime and look through what they have. If I want something I can just pick it up while I'm in the area.

Get with Bruce Piehl in your area and find out what his show schedule is. He is a member here and the link to his site is

He does very many shows a year in your area.

Johnny is right about brick and mortar stores, they are fading fast in the knife world.  Too much inventory to keep on hand, too much mark up to make it worth it to the owner.  But I do miss being able to walk into a store and check out whats new.  Thats why the shows are so important to our hobby

Yep, Johnny, you're a lucky man. But hey, I'm lucky too. I live in America! And I got a ton of great knives. My grandson is really gonna love me when I'm gone :) He's also lucky.

I believe that Country Knives, in Intercourse, PA, carries Great Eastern.  That's a stop that I always make when in the area. 

Distributors are nice, but finding a good brick and morter store is much better.

I agree with you Johnny but you are lucky to be close enough to get down to GEC. I envy you my friend! But I can go to the Randall Made Knives store I guess so I can only complain so much. But I prefer folders so I'd rather be in PA. Good thing that most of the GEC distributors are great folks and you can return a knife that you are not satisfied with.

yes you used to be able to walk in any hardware store and handle and buy any case knife you wanted.i wish you could do that with other brands. it is even still hard to find a small hardware store where you can go and the clerk knows everything about the knife you are buying.i guess the ol'e day's are gone what a shame...

well...smkw has quite a few of them...a bit pricey,..but you can pick them up and handle them at least.I'm lucky living just 5o miles from it,I go and look as often as i can. but owning quite a few of GECs, i can almost feel them in my hand, just looking at pic.lol...not quite the same though!  but it is quite a rush to go to the mailbox, open it and see that little box just waiting to be cut open!! Then the feeling of opening it and popping the tube open and feeling that new knife ! wow i think i need to order a knife!!! lol anyone know the number to knife addiction hotline?  ;-}~

You're right, Jeff. Waiting for the mail is a rush. I always feel better when I know a knife is on the way.
