David...

Water filter: http://www.vestergaard-frandsen.com/lifestraw

You can buy: http://www.discountmylarbags.com/lifestraw-water-filter/

Fire starter and survival kit: Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate Kit (all in one)

Butane lighter is small and can start lots of camp fires if you know how to make a proper small camp fire.

A water proof 10X10' tarp rolled up and on top of my rut-sack and sleeping bag good to -20 degree F.

A shoulder fired firearm (.22 Mag. cal) a pistol revolver in .22 Mag. A small amount of gun oil. & 300 rounds of .22 mag.

A chopping tool (machete US Military Issue), one combat/utility knife (Daniel Winkler WK II Utility Knife) http://www.winklerknives.com/knives.asp?id=203
 and one Leatherman Wave tool.

Dried food for a week and six liters of water.

Clothing: One change, cold weather, very warm hat, very warm mittens and very good winter boots with two pair of 100% wool socks.

IF....if things go south you will know it is coming so fill up your gas tank and buy an extra eight gallons in gas plastic cans.  Carry extra supplies in the vehicle and when you run out of gas on your way to "Fort Up" you can bury your extra supplies to return to later.

Less populated areas is our first thought but smaller communities are more close knit and have many more survivor capabilities.  Food growing, community shelter raising etc.  Be prepared and be ready to hit the road in 30 min. Rendezvous points for family, friends or partners where you can meet to take off within the 30 min timeline.  Some ideas given to spur others.

What I'm more afraid of is, not Iran shooting a nuclear missile or dropping a bomb (though that concerns me too), but Iran getting someone to set off a dirty nuclear bomb!

Many people on here have said they have water purifiers. Can any one give specifics on Types, Brands or reccomendations? Also what do you have in your backpack, Food? Clothes? Fire Making tools,Some water I'm guessing. A tent or just a tarp?Let's here what you really have ?What kind of weapons? I know I cant carry all my stuff and I can only go so far on the gas I have so where would you go? the Mountains or is it to cold there or just less populated places?

David..

Any strike.....on the USA by anyone would be meet with an overwhelming Thermonuclear response.  N. Korea may be a rough State but they are not stupid.  The way the earth is tilted Alaska is in the strike zone....if they had the missile to reach us...but the very NW corner of the lower 48 would be their target. The N. Koreans are not our problem.  If Iran builds a bomb then in a very few years they will be able to make a small one which they will give to some religious nuts who WILL use it.  Let us pray this will no happen.

Hey guys, have you forgotten Alaska?

If it can reach San Francisco then it can also take out the whole northern states like WY, OR, WA, MT, ID, AZ, CO etc...They can reach them as they are shot trans-polar (over the North Pole which is why the DEW line was built) not trans-meridian.

All kidding aside, the days of Cold War fears and the stupidity of "Duck & Cover" government misinformation are long past—well not the government’s stupidity, unfortunately that’s still with us...Ten small dirty bombs strategically placed would be far more devastating then one huge mega blast.

James, they only need one bomb…Think about a large enough bomb set off in Los Angeles/San Pedro Harbour…Okay, sure, a ground blast will reduce the effective radius by around 30% but within weeks it would have accounted for the deaths of probably 25 million people and in a couple of months 40 million with the easterly winds…That’s the total death toll +/- of all civilian and military personnel during WW2…American retaliation would be swift and five low yield, short half life, fusion bombs would make Iran into a skating rink—blast glass!

What happens if they just decide to EMP the west coast? Just a thought??

Comment by James Cole on October 14, 2012 at 13:40

You're right Clint, Korea is likely not a threat, Iran and adumbwittedjohn probably are.  He's just wacko enough to drop one on Isreal, but what man goes to war with only one round for his gun.

Comment by Clint Thompson on October 13, 2012 at 12:12

If the North Koreans do its only US target to reach is San Fransisco. They don't have one as all the two stage rockets they have tested have failed.  No worries here.

Comment by James Cole on October 13, 2012 at 11:35

North Korea "claims" to have a missile that will reach the U.S mainland, but that is very doubtful.

David....

N. Korea does not have the navy nor the money, nor the military to invade Japan let alone the USA.  TOPS knives has a great selection at a reasonable price. Have a good weekend.
