The only reason I don't have a Strider is the cost. Go for it, you won't be sorry.

ok- y'all know by now that I'm really an old knife guy (you figure that one out). Since iKC has been up and I'm met all of you, I've been watching out of the corner of my eye some of the cool tacticals.
Now, I have made the decision I am going to buy one and plan on at the Blade Show this weekend!!
BUT, I have been looking around trying to get a feel. I've asked for suggestions as I go around iKC, esp. in the Chat.
This morning I found what I think I want. It's big and solid (probably on the heavy side), which I like from the knife I have collected (it is big and solid).
Here is it.....the only thing is I haven't heard y'all mention Strider. Should I be concerned?

Don't be surprised if I come back with a "tactical" from the Blade Show this weekend....just don't know what to get. I guess I'll just get the one that speaks the loudest to me.
With RAT just 20 minutes from my hometown...might pick one of them up.
But I'll report back and let you know. Wish me luck!

Keelen and All....
Good stuff here. Great feedback. Helps me understand the appeal of this type knife.
To allow me to restate what I am hearing- its a cool and mod looking knife for everyday use. but can get you out of a real jam with a bad guy, if needed.
How's that?

Well, there is no doubt, the traditional knives, for the most part, don't offer the "get you out of a jam" part, plus most of them look like our Dad's EDC.

to reply to Scoot's last post...

i like Tactical knives cuz there durable and when there durable you use them more cuz u don't have to worry about it breaking or chipping like knives with wood or bone (scratching wood or bone is easy thus de-valuing it).... 2nd quick deployment, you don't have to worry about what you deploy ether like a Swiss army knife (that would be bad pulling out a can opener wile in a tac. situation...) and 3rd is the cool-ness-ability or the knives, looking totally bad a**... 4th easy to obtain, its hard to find other older knives in a store....

Thank you for your service to our country. I appreciate all that you have done.

I would like to articulate the comment made by Tom Cai- I served 4 years as a US MARINE and never once carried a blade... There was some moderate knife training after boot camp, but aside from a bayonet (which I never carried either) there was no military issue blade- and KBAR was optional in the field and the only blade that was allowed to be fixed to our web gear in the field.

To me tactical means "emergency in extreme cases," as in this is a serious life or death situation that there is no way I could fight my way out of... Something drastic that my moral compass would direct me to authorize the use of deadly force.

I carry Benchmade's and Spyderco's every day all day long- I LOVE them, and use the holy heck out of them, and indeed, when I'm on my way walking to work midnights through the nasty parts of downtown Chicago very very late at night I do feel safer than if I were otherwise armed. But the use of the word "tactical" gets thrown around allot on the internet- and sometimes that worries me...

If I go my entire life and never have to protect myself using a blade that would be a very very good thing... Likewise not having a knife when I need one would be a bad thing:)

Keep your knives sharp!
