Introducing the iKC NAME GAME: - Knife Industry & Cutlery Company Characters

Gonna have a little fun- and if anyone here gets PO'd at me, well, I'm sorry. But this will be fun and keep you on your toes.

Starting today, I'm starting a series called The Name Game. Yeap, I'm going to post a picture of a character from the knife industry or cutlery history and your job is to guess who it is. I'll provide a little clue too. Prizes? Probably not- only bragging rights. Maybe I can get JJ to design a trophy or something :)

I'm sure I'll have to end up coming up with some rules as we go along, but for now- let's just say, the first post back to this Blog post here wins, with the correct answer, of course. I need the person's full name. If you want to really show off and add the knife company or industry firm the person is associated with and a little history or bio on him/her, then that'd be all the better.

Each new game I'll post a new blog post and give a clue.

The first game's clue is-

This is a famous American character from days gone by. In addition to his extensive cutlery experience he was know for escapades while on the road selling cutlery and heavy partying Moreover, and most importantly, he originated the most famous cutlery trademark in knife history.

OK, here I go-..oh, I didn't tell you where to look for this guy's picture yet have I? How about all over iKC :)

I think I'll leave ol' Jean up for a few days :)

Comment by Jim Thompson on February 22, 2011 at 18:24: The "XX" mark belonged to Case Brothers Cutlery Company. This company was formed by Jean, John & Andrew Case in 1887. This mark was first used by an English Company & Case Bros. got the rights to it. I do not know which specific one was responsible for aquiring it.

On October 3rd of 1914, Jean, in an effort to procure funds, sold the "XX" trademark to Russ for $1500.
