We are the EveryDay Carriers!

We here at the EDC Club are the side of the knife hobby who are the "Users." We are the EveryDay Carriers. Yes, we probably have one or two stuck back either due to sentimental reasons, or the knife was one of those- "just couldn't say no" when we first saw it and now it is a trophy knife in our possession, BUT, for the most part, we are users.

It's hard for us to imagine spending hundreds, thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars on knives - then stashing them away and not putting them to task, like they were made for. We help knives fulfill their destiny! Yes, they get scratched, tips broken off, and lost, but sitting there collecting dust, all the while its screaming to be carried and used- not our knives.

Granted we may rotate our EDC's in and out based on what we are doing for the day, or our moods, and may even retire one every now and then, but use them we do and are proud of it!

Comment by Patrik Ilijev on January 23, 2011 at 7:55: Yes Nate I think it is all about quality control also the steel is important but even a 440 steel can perform great if it is properly heat treated an properly sharpen an I agree with you I also love spyderco and cold steel I try to maintain 1:1 ratio in my EDC and since I don't own the tenacious I can't comment on that particular knife but since I have the para military on my wish list but that is to expensive right now for me I would go with the Resilience has some nice specks.

Honestly I own the RAT1 folder and I absolutely love it and I agree that taiwan made blades are great quality, 90% of cold steel knives are made there and they have yet to fail on me. Now I've always been ify on china blades and especially 8cr13mov but so far this tenacious has been one hell of a knife so we will see. Kershaw is coming out with a few imports this year and I'm still kinda skeptical of them but hey I'm spyderco fan thru and thru now to go buy more lol

Oso Sweet for snap Tool ? I don't know about it maybe you can post some link or picture. And tor my Oso Sweet it features 8CR13Mov steel and i will come in a plastic display package I saw a version in a box that featured a AUS 6A steel but it was around 10-12 USD more. My understanding is that 8CR13Mov is a china made steel wit similar tributes than AUS8A US made steel and in some reviews the AUS 6A with bad or not sufficient heat treating is inferior to AUS 8A and 8CR13Mov therefor I picked up the 8CR13Mov. Maybe you have more information to this statement. And to the price of the benchmade who knows maybe it ist the brand name or higher quality control sure it is not he material cost :) but as I'm a fan of US made AUS 8A Steel I recommend the Ontario RAT-1 and it is made in TAIWAN and we know TAIWAN made knifes a more reliable and the quality is also higher thank CHINA made Knifes. And one more point that speaks for he Ontario RAT-1 $26.95 + shipping (ebay) you just cant beat the price and steel just cant. Yes and I also like Ka-bar hell I like all knifes :)

Comment by Mig Santos on January 22, 2011 at 21:31: Yeah, Patrik, it seems we have similar likes. I already have the Oso Sweet and the Persistence, and Ka-Bars, all very sweet tools. The 8Cr14MoV steel comes from China, which should have brought the Vex's price down (US$60 msrp) to at least $40. Maybe it's the demand? Did you know there's also a red Oso Sweet, for Snap Tools? It's also nice that companies like Benchmade mention a knife's country of origin.

BTW if you are looking for a similar edc I have won on ebay and Kershaw OSO SWEET (27$ with international shipping) also made in china and it is ASSISTED yes and also the Spyderco Persistence would be a very nice option

Has a 3.3" 8Cr13MoV BP Ti-coated blade, a solid feel due to its steel liners and G-10 handle. Closer feel to your Tenacious, Nate. Here's an eBay search link too.

As for hawbill I would love one but the are illegal in the state of Tennessee as well as any knife over 4in. I know I'm pushing it carrying a 5in cold steel voyager but I know some of the cops and they aren't very tolerant to hawkbills

Comment by Mig Santos on January 21, 2011 at 14:00: My cheapest premium Benchmade was a Mini-Griptilian in 154CM for $58, and this is a bargain. Under $50 would usually be 3 inch blades with medium steel (AUS8, 9Cr13, 440C).

Since you mentioned hawkbill before, what about the Boker Batman ($36)
