We are the EveryDay Carriers!

We here at the EDC Club are the side of the knife hobby who are the "Users." We are the EveryDay Carriers. Yes, we probably have one or two stuck back either due to sentimental reasons, or the knife was one of those- "just couldn't say no" when we first saw it and now it is a trophy knife in our possession, BUT, for the most part, we are users.

It's hard for us to imagine spending hundreds, thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars on knives - then stashing them away and not putting them to task, like they were made for. We help knives fulfill their destiny! Yes, they get scratched, tips broken off, and lost, but sitting there collecting dust, all the while its screaming to be carried and used- not our knives.

Granted we may rotate our EDC's in and out based on what we are doing for the day, or our moods, and may even retire one every now and then, but use them we do and are proud of it!

Comment by Chris Hillier on January 25, 2011 at 3:14: Hahaha Patrik, i almost spit my coffee this morning reading that "look officer a ufo and trow the knife away". So classic! A lot of people frown on the older blade steels, by that i mean the 440's which were common place when i was younger. We didnt have the s30v or 154cm etc. One thing i will always say is that the lighter/cheaper steels 420, 440a, 440c, might not be as durable or hold an edge for long, but the average inexperienced knife user/sharpener can put a razor edge back on them without expensive tools.
I have run my tenacious for awhile now and it seems to be holding up fine! Will keep ya posted. I dropped my spyderco milli the other day, it stuck tip down into linoleum covered concrete without the slightest tip deviation "whew".
Canadian laws are the same, limited to 4" folded, no switch, spring or gravity knives, but fixed exposed as long as its sheathed. I carry a left pocket tarani master karambit, and a right (lately) either millie, A100, ak-47 or in the yard my trusty kabar k2 warthog. If an officer asks, i will try the ufo, if not then will have to ask why he carries weak side weapons.

Patrik, you mentioned the pricey Para-Military? Spyderco has another CPM-S30V in the Native ($61 at Amazon). Slightly thinner blade at 1/8", instead of 5/32". Hollow-grind, not Flat-grind. Lockback, not Compression lock. Tip-up, not tip-down carry. It could quench your thirst... temporarily at least.

Comment by Mig Santos on January 23, 2011 at 23:33: Nate, here's a good deal on a Spyderco Atlantic Salt (an even $50). Compared to the Pacific Salt, it's only 1/8" shorter. But it has a sheepfoot blade, which is less aggressive looking and much safer on kids' toes.

Here in California, state law frowns on folding knives more than 3-inches, should be hidden, but any blade style including karambits. Fixed blades should be sheathed and fully exposed, no size limit (maybe sabers and katanas are fine :) ?) Automatics, butterfly, double edged daggers and such strictly banned countrywide unless law enforcement or military. Knives come in so many styles, sizes and uses that to get just one of each might mean more than 300 knives. So you guys got me salivating again for that next sharp edge...

Comment by Patrik Ilijev on January 23, 2011 at 10:40: Ok Nate as I don't have a fire arm permit so i cant carry a pistol with me therefor there is just one option for me and since I also collect knifes I like to carry more then one knife. Usually 1 tactical large 1 utility medium (assisted) and 1 small automatic in my jacket. If I count my back pack them + 2 one swiss victorinox and one small multi tool in my EDC pouch. And for the pollice office question here in Slovakia we dont have any legislative restrictions regarding knifes just dont display them in the public because than you can be charged wit endangering. I did not come across a case that a police office asked you on the street to empty you pockets and I always stay out of trouble and mind my own business. But to answer your question I don't know what my answer would be maybe something like ,,Oh look office a UFO and when he turns around a wold trow the knife away,,
