Close Shave With A Black Catt

I'd just like to share this Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. straight razor with everyone.

This was my grandfather's razor. He got it while he was the manager of the Gaut & Becker Hardware Store in Jeannette Pennsylvania in the 1930's. These were made up for the store, as you can see the Gaut & Becker - Jeannette Pennsylvania etch.

This is one of my cherished possessions...........…

My Latest Activities by Stanley May

I wrote the following not knowing "My Latest Activity" is limited to 140 characters.  So I decided to post it as a blog.

My wife and I are getting ready to move her/my business to a different location in Elkhart, Indiana.  I am hoping this new location will result in more sold knives.  I recently bought via Ebay, a handsome oldish Case display case.  I am excited about this.

I still haven't connected with Wayne Whitted about getting a Purdue knife, but I would like to do this…

My Knife Collecting Life

I am new to iKC, and thought I would describe to you my knife collecting life (which is not too long).  To start with, I am a recently retired structural engineer.  I worked 34 year performing stress analysis on aircraft wheels, brakes, and struts, mostly for large commercial aircraft, but also some military aircraft.  If you don't mind me "tooting my own horn", I structurally designed the B2 (stealth bomber) main wheels and brakes.  I retired in March of 2011, and picked up an old hobby I…

Final Knife Post Today

The last post for the day.

This one also is from Garrett-Wade, but comes from a small firm in Uruguay, this knife is called The Condor.  You can see the condor stamped into the black sheath.

The other black handled knife looked mean??  This one just looks treacherous!  It's what drew me to the polycarb handle.  In black it is just sweet.…

2nd Knife Post

Another knife from Garrett Wade.  Bigger than the first knife, nothing like the 3rd one.  It is pretty substantial for a folding knife and has a belt clip so you can wear it.

So you could use it in the yard.  Not on the farm or the ranch but in the yard.  Well, you could for small things.…

Hello & Some New Knives

Hi all.  Sorry I have been missing but I am here today and even have some new pics to post.  I hope all of you have been damn well!!

First knife up is small and from a company called Garrett-Wade.  They sell a lot of knives and implements along with other related tools.

This knife is 3 1/4" closed and the handles look like rosewood.  It reminds me of a knife I bought here.  It has a metal belt clip and can be opened/closed with one hand.…

Grace of God

We call ourselves a knife family. If we are then lets help our brothers and sisters in the Gulf. Our prayers are with you. If you can help in anyway don't be afraid to post. Not preaching, but it can happen to any of us, so let's show our support to our knife family and prove what we say. It might not be more than a shout out, but that means a lot. My prayers are with you. Stay sharp.

Knives that just make your jaw drop to the floor.

Every so often I see a knife that just plain floors me. So I thought I'd share two of those with you all.

These knives were made by a scandinavian maker. Now you should know that in scandinavia it's quite normal for someone to make a blade and someone else to turn that blade into a knife by making the handle a sheath for it. These are like that. The blades were made by Mattias Styrefors and everything else by Tommy Alatalo (check out his website…

Special and Fun holidays to celebrate..............

When : Always August 18th

Bad Poetry Day is a day to create some really bad verse. But, why you ask? Perhaps, the answer is simply "because you can". Maybe, it exists to allow us to better appreciate good poetry. Or, perhaps it is to be written to irritate someone......…

KnifeMaker
Carving Blister?

i haven't done any good carving in a while, and while sitting at a yard sale, i thought i would do some carving using my Rough Rider stockman knife. i carved a nice face in the cedar wood, but soon after i realized i had created a huge blister on my left thumb. i used my thumb to apply pressure to the spine of the knife while carving.

is there a way to avoid this? did i do something wrong while carving? any solution, or suggestion would be appreciated.

thanks…

Our site and Facebook

In my excitement to have the FB page up, running and an option for us I did not think to let you all know it is not a replacement for our beloved site, it is an enhancement for us.  It will give us an option for spending time together and meeting new friends.  I apologize for any confusion.  Think of the places we can go and the people we can meet!!!  So don't be shy...see us in both places

Burke, Idaho: A Modern Ghost Town and a Lesson in Economics Pt. 6, The End.

So...here we are. The end of an era. That phrase..."The end of an era"...has been so overused. Perhaps...just perhaps...it's use here lacks the correct..."gravity".

In Part 5, I showed you photos of the Hecla Mining operation...or, more specifically, the ruins that still exist. I stated that even though mining operations had long since ceased, Hecla's main headquarters continued to function in Burke all the way into 1982. And then...the inevitable finally happened; they closed…

One knife.

Okay guys, I just asked this question in the Arsenal, but this is a knife sight and I wanna know. If you had to leave your house tomorrow in a pressure, can't return for a while situation, what knife is going with you? It doesn't matter if it's some three foot long machete, tell us what you're taking and why?
