The 2015 DKE (Dutch Knife Exhibition) and my personal experience this year.

So this past saturday we had the DKE. And unlike some previous years where I was able to take LOT's of pictures and write commentairy for them.

This year I didn't get around to that at all. But let me tell you about the show from the perspective of a fairly novice maker. (This was only my 3rd show attending as a maker)

At 6:30am a friend of mine came to pick me up. The guy is one of my closest friends and although we sometimes don't talk to each other for weeks…

What's your favourite custom "Tactical" folder. (you don't have to actually own it)

Allright guys. Yesterday I realised that I have a bunch of lovely knives that I carry every day. But the ONE tactical folder (one hand opening, Pocket clip) that I have is rather plain (even if it's very good). Which it the Mcusta Tactility.

Now I'd like to save up for a nice Handmade/custom tactical folder. But first I'd like all you guys' input on what's out there. Maybe I'll get a new idea ot something. (It'd need to be something that will be made…

Filework, yes or no?

Just wondering how you guys stand on filework.

(not my picture, came from http://makestuffwithyourhands.files.wordpress.com)

Like it? Don't like it? Just the blade? Just the handle? what're you thinking?

Personally I like it as long as the rest of the knife…

The comittee knife part 2

Allright. So far we've decided on a design, and a grind.

Here's what we have so far:

I'll soon be setting a flat grind on that knife. What I need your input on now though is what kind of handle material it should have.

Basically almost anything is an option. But just to get the ball rolling I'll show some…

A knife by committee.....can it be done?

Allright. All my projects are temporarily on hold because of things like heat treat/waiting for materials.

But I still want to play around with steel. So I've decided to design a knife by comittee.

Here's how this works. I need input from all of you, as much as possible. Everyone who responds please give me the following information as to what you'd like to see me make.

Steel, I have 3 options,

  • 2mm thick OW3 steel,
  • 5,6mm…

The first one today is a maker called Martin Annegarn or MAknives who makes some very cool high precision folders. Martin works from a tiny home workshop but he does…

Knife makers of the Dutch Knife Exhibition part 5

Now as everyone knows sometimes people come from far for these knifeshows.

The dealer who's next did come from as far away as South Africa.

Here's some of the things they brought with them

André van Heerder knives. I loved this one because of the pattern that snakes between the carbon fibre scales and the lovely damascus…

Knife makers of the Dutch Knife Exhibition part 4

Folder and fixed blades both today.

First of these is Filip de Leeuw of Deviant Blades who makes some awesome folding knives. His Forté is titanium framelocks. But he's also done a friction folder that got picked up and will be released this summer.

Filip works pretty much with nothing but Premium materials like Mammoth, Carbon Fibre, G-10 etc. And makes for a very nice folding knife. He told me…

Knife makers of the Dutch Knife Exhibition part 2

Picking up where I left off yesterday. Starting with a local that lives in the city where the show was held, Tiel.

Eric de Feijter is a stock removal knifemaker that does his own Heat Treat. His specialty is in knives that are heavily scandinavian influenced but he's also tried his hand at some scagelesque knives and knives influenced by american knife styles.

Here he is at his table.…

Knife makers of the Dutch Knife Exhibition part 1 (attempt #2)

Last Saturday I visited the one knifeshow my little country has every year. (It's ok, there's a couple more in Germany, Belgium and France every year as well and they're just around the corner so don't feel TOO bad for me)

Entering the room I found it to be very well visited. After browsing for a couple of hours I took out the camera and started taking pictures....then I put away the camera and took out my cellphone because apparantly that takes better pictures in the terrible…
