The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Part 2 of this blog is dealing with Survival knives, both as an item and a legit category for collecting.
The bone of contention that was vocalized some time ago is that there is no such thing as a tactical knife or a survival knife – rather, these terms are marketing terms to sell more knives. (Tactical knives are discussed in Part 1).
While I have a different opinion on the matter, I can’t throw out the whole argument because some of it is true – many companies and makers do…

41 individual pieces to this knife.
The top frame:
(01) Houses the heart of the mechanism, the slide assembly
(02) Within the “slide assembly” is the “main spring”
(03) Hardened steel “Lugs”
(04) Which are attached to either end. These lugs contact the blade at point
(05) To shoot the blade in & out. This OTF mechanism uses what I call the “Cowcatcher”
(06) For a solid lock-up. The Cowcatcher slides along a groove in the “Bottom frame” to…

When it comes to knife collecting, there are probably as many types of collectors as there are categories of knives to collect – from purists to novices, open-minded to staunch believers, early adapters to Luddites, and everything in between.
I like to think of myself as one who knows why I collect what I collect – evolving technologies notwithstanding – and stands behind it unless a better argument comes along that challenges my thought processes enough to either broaden my…

I admit I like Maxpedition gear, but sometimes I come across something that is worthy of sharing. Such is the case with my new Maxpedition 3” x 5” notebook cover (SKU:3302, MSRP $15.99). This is the perfect Maxpedition gear to carry a 3” x 5” notebook, or 3” x 5” recipe cards. I am finding this is increasingly important for those of us who suffer from Can’t Remember Stuff (CRS).
You can find many reviews of these on YouTube, this is just an introduction and it shows you how I set…

I have 3 knives that I want to get but can only afford one of them in Feb as my splurge of the month and I want to know what you fine folks think I should do...
The 3 knives are...
The Lion Steel SR1-A (Red)
The Zero Tolerance 0801 (Ti)

If it was your choice which knife would you get, all three of them appeal to me for different reasons, all of them have something special that…

Howdy folks, wanted to first say thank you to those of you who sent me warm welcoming wishes on my page here, so thank you folks. My name is Michael, I'm a 50 year old dude from Philadelphia who has been into collecting swords and daggers for over 40 years and just recently switched over to collecting folding and fixed blade knives because I have run out of room to store swords and larger blades in my house. I started collecting just a month ago, with a few inexpensive folders from Amazon…

I guess most of us tend to have some sort of interest in other sharp things , swords etc. I have just been looking at an impressive web site called myArmoury.com . I went there initially to look at information about the hardness of steel in old swords . I thought maybe some folks here might like to have a look . Maybe if it is of interest then Jan or Steve may wish to put this post in a different area ?…

Some states say they have the right to dictate what you can carry and why, simply because you have chosen to live there. Now there seems to be a heated discussion about what your allowed to see. Thats right, pictures of "weapons" such as a SAK knife are no longer your choice to see LOL
Google Adwords has long taken the stand that folks that sell guns cannot advertise with them. Then it was companies that incorporated the word KNIFE in their business name. Yes even a site where we…

I had the good fortune, last week end, to spend most of three solid days at cutlery mecca - Smokey Mountain Knife Works. Saying it was an educational and fun week end would be classed as a dramatic understatement, Taking three days off from the shop was a welcome change of pace. One pass through the aisles of the 100,000 retail space and you may find your head spinning. As I stood behind the sales counter I definitely noticed that glazed look on many of the faces filing by - especially…
