The National Knife Collectors Association needs our support

When I first started collecting knives one of the first things I did was to join the National Knife Collectors Association (NKCA). While I've yet to purchase an annual club knife, I have attended various NKCA sponsored shows and meetings, including board meetings, out of support for this organization.

The NKCA is a good thing. It is headed up by folks who have a genuine interest in promoting our hobby of knife collecting.

I understand…

Life, Knives and Fellow Collectors

As I turned another year younger earlier this month I have reflected on my travels through life's passages and I've found the flame for enjoying our hobby is always burning. Yeah, there are times it burns brighter than others, but it's always there.

This year has been crazy busy with life- son graduating from high school, enrolling him in college, adjusting to changes in the home life due to my wife getting a job for the first time in our 25 year marriage (she…

A G Russell called and our 2010 Sunfish Club Knife is in!!

I'm excited to report our first-ever iKC club knife is in. A. G. called me today as they finished their inspection of each knife in our order.

I'll be emailing all you members who have reserved one so far. I want to get them in and double check the shipping amount and then will let you know.

A. G. said the exotic Monkey Thorn scales (handles) look fabulous. I asked him to snap me a pic so I could show you the actual knife and black belt holster…

Update: 2010 iKC Club Knives

Just got word from A. G. Russell our 2010 iKC Club Knives are expected any day. Once he receives them and inspects our knives he'll send them to me.

At that point, I'll get the shipping cost and email all of you who have ordered one (or more) with the final price. The price is $99 plus shipping.

At that point, each of you will send me payment and I'll get them right out.

So, for any iKC members who are interested but…

Let's Celebrate- Cheers to you! iKC's Birthday's today!

This last year has been a blast! As each of you joined iKC we got a chance to know some things about you. Little about your personality, your EDC, the knives you like, and usually other stuff too.

We are all different- and some more so than others, but nonetheless, we all have contributed to iKC celebrating our first birthday today.

Yes, it was April 14th, 2009 when iKC was born. It was slow going there for a while, but slowly as each…

iKnife Collector is now live on the iPad

In case you have been under a rock over the last month or so, Apple's newest piece of computing technology- the iPad- hit the stores yesterday.

Yes, even though I pre-ordered one that will ship late April with 3G, I couldn't stand it and blasted top-down to the nearest Apple Store and grabbed one for the family :-) It is the regular WI-FI (non-3G) model.

So, I am happy to report iKC is now live and able to be viewed on the fabulous…

2010 iKnife Collector Club Knife Update

Talked to A. G. Russell the other day and he said our knives should be in next month. I've emailed you who have reserved one and a few of you have yet to respond with your address, so if you let me know you wanted one and didn't get my email, please contact me at scott@iknifecollector.com

I ordered a few extra if any of the new members who joined since I took the order want one. It is a modern- day JUMBO Sunfish, as A. G. calls it.

NKCA Knife Show in Dalton, Ga this weekend

Due to contraints on my schedule I don't get to many knife shows during the year, but this weekend so far my schedule is working out to go.

When I first started collecting knives, I just didn't get it. No, I didn't get knife shows- not at all.

Honestly, I just thought they were for a bunch of old timers who traded knives among themselves.

But, I gave them a try- and got…

I'm here- just holed up in my office

If you've been a member here at iKC for very long you've probably noticed the blog post feed of Cutlery News Journal piped into our community's homepage. That's my personal collector's blog I've written for about a year and a half now. Well, got some changes coming down the pike that I'm pretty excited about, and I think you'll like them too.

If you've not seen me out roaming the streets of iKC over the last couple…

The Itch

I cant' stand it. I must be allergic, cause I've got the itch- really bad.

It's like walking through Kudzu here at iKC. Well, the truth is it's not the kudzu that makes me itch- it's the Chiggers (red bugs) living in Kudzu and they eat me alive. They make me itch like crazy. Well, it's not iKC that makes me itch either- it's the knives on display here.

What's the point about… Continue

The Community at iKnifeCollector Factoids

There is nothing like iKC anywhere on the web.

When I first was introduced to this community format/technology back early last year there was no doubt in my mind it would make provide for (cause "WE" are the community)- the next generation knife collector community. I'm also going to guess it will remain the most cutting-edge technology until the real geeks of the world make it so we can show our knives to each other in 3-D or High Def, or until we can use… Continue

Follow iKnifeCollector on Twitter

iKnifeCollector is now tweeting. Yes, iKC members and interested followers can now receive updates, announcements and community tidbits easily and remotely.

I'm always looking for better ways to communicate and keep folks up to speed on the goings-on here and have decided Twitter is the answer.

What is Twitter? In a nut-shell, it's a mobile web-based network designed for instant- short messaging.

Why am I using another tool when iKC is the… Continue

Do you remember the first time?

Our lives are filled with a deluge of thoughts and image impressions. Our memories are, to put it in computer terms, like files on our hard drive. All day, every day, our internal video camera is recording everything our senses encounter. Just think of the shear amount of data our brains record on a daily basis and many studies conclude the brain retains this information for our lifetime.

And while it is interesting to ponder all that, I'm just an old knife guy who can't… Continue

My vision for our iKC Blogs

We are all like-minded knife enthusiasts. All you have to do is flip on the iKC Media Center to see- pictures and videos- of the widest variety of knives- from super cool customs to…

Blogging to the Knife Community Part II

One of the unique features of iKC is the membership's ability to write on knife related topics for the benefit of the entire community.

Since we have had many new members join since the last time I talked about our blogs, allow me to once again remind us how we use our blogs and how we don't :)

Merry Christmas iKC

I'm following Andy's lead here.....

Merry Christmas!

If you are a new member here you might consider this (me) a little dorky (my family does) and that's OK. Our old timers here know I enjoy life. Try to squeeze every drop of good times and happy memories I can make.

In fact, one of the things folks say… Continue

Knife New Year's Resolutions

It's about that time of year again- time to resolve to, or not to, do. Today, I want us to drive a stake in the ground on knife resolutions. Here and now, we are resolving at least one knife resolution.

There are tons of areas we can accomplish, or quit. From making a knife, attending a knife show, spending (or not) a predetermined amount of money on our hobby, read a knife book, make a YouTube video on your favorite knife, write a knife blog once a month, start a new… Continue
