Cold Steel Irish Blackhorn Walking Stick

Well, I didn't expect to find this, especially around here.

As stated in the title this is a Cold Steel Irish Blackhorn Walking Stick, (not to be confused with their Irish Blackthorn Shillelagh which has longer knobby things on the stick and sells for less). Smokey Mountain Knife Works sells these for $46.99, (when in stock), which is the reason I didn't buy one when I visited the store, the price was just a little high for me that day, (though…

New Display Case

Found this little mirrored display case at a local antique shop, (though as usual it is NOT an antique). It can be set on a flat surface or hung on a wall. I picked this up with the intention of installing a lock and using it as a sales display for knives at a local consignment antique store. They asked me to consider selling there because they know I collect, and they claim that old knives sell well. I intended on filling it with my "extras" and the many old knives I have collected over the…

Found a Winchester today

Found a decent little Winchester Stockman at a local antique store this week, but it's definitely not an antique. It's probably an import, but I couldn't find a matching knife at SMKW or even on Ebay, so it's origins are a mystery at the moment. There is no tang stamp or origin marks anywhere, only the blade etch and shield, (past SMKW offering?). Handle is likely "Stagalon", blades are SS and show no usage. Even though it probaly isn't from Alabama it was nice to find this locally,…

My Buck collection as of May 2017

I've shown various versions of this photo elsewhere on IKC, so instead of posting in a thread again I thought I would post this here as sort of a virtual storage area for current photos of my collection, kind of an IKC version of "cloud storage".

What differs in this photo is that it also contains my "other" Bucks, including my EDC's, (#310, #312, #314), and my two #110 Folding Hunters. None of those were shown in the case in the other photos I've posted. The only Buck missing is my…

In memorium

I found and obtained this 1988 Buck #301 Stockman in Yellow Sawcut Delrin to honor my passed stepson Joshua to commemorate his birth year. I will keep it for now, but when his 2 yr old son Roman grows up I'll make sure he gets it. I must admit that going on from here will be difficult, at times nearly impossible, but I must honor Josh's memory and keep him alive in my heart. So, I honor him as any good knife collector would do and bought this knife as something to forever remind me of…

Buck 300 Series "Special Factory Order" Family Portrait

One of these days, after I stop spending all my disposable income on pocket knives I should buy myself a good DSLR camera. Trying to get a decent photo of pocket knives seems to elude me using the little Canon "point & shoot" that I have. Inside or outside I never seem to be able to get the light right. Oh well, inferior photo or not here is my collection of the Camillus-made Buck Special Factory Order knives made for and sold exclusively by Smoky Mountain Knife Works. In this photo are…

Mission accomplished!

Since completing my Buck 300 Series collection, (ie; one of each regular model made by Camillus between 1972-1986), I have been on another mission; to collect one of each model of the Buck 300 Series SFO's, (special factory orders). It has taken me over two years to complete, but today's mail delivery put the final knife in my hands. I now have at least one of each model, (still working on one of each version, a whole other mission). Below are the latest arrivals; Buck #331 Grandaddy Barlow…

Purchased this queen knife today from a local gentleman

I have quite a few Queen knives but I'm not familiar with this one that I purchased today. The wood is exotic and the knife is marked as seen in the photos. All information would be appreciated...type of wood?, number made? When made? and reasonable fair market value?   thank you all for your help. Please address comments to my personal email address which is pithole@zoominternet.net  There is no damage or imperfections..this is reflection.…

Why I live where I live.

A friend's photos of tonight's sunset taken close to my apartment. I have family nearby, so that is my main reason to be here, but I would want to live here even if they weren't here I think. I have to live in a tiny place with no yard or storage and live with less, have to do without certain amenities, (like eating out, etc, etc), but those views and the weather......I hate living without a shop space or storage, but if I can't have those things so be it, I can live with…

KnifeMaker
Brass Tacks

I suspect that all Brass Tacks are made in ONE Factory. After 9 stores and over 2 DOZEN "brands" and seeing no difference in fit or finish I bought 2 12" sections of 1/16th brass rod and have begun cold forging my own.
They are for a new style of wood Scabbard for some of my miniatures, they incorporate a cold forged brass or copper belt/boot/pocket clip that can also double as a Bail for wearing as a neck knife.

Minon #20

This tiny guy went so fast to his new owner, that I didn't even had time to make some pics.

The steel is 1.2379 (D2), hardened up to about 60 HRc, hammered copper guard, tiger wood and sapele wood handle. The sapele showed some very interesting flader, but it coudn't be photographed very well.

At first I named it "Red" - a name, showing my total lack of imagination. But after I sent it, I had a few conversations with the new owner, who sait it looks…

Minion #18

Nothing new - 1.2379 (D2) steel, 60 HRc. The blade is the suomi style blade of The baby sister, The teacher's knife, The two dwarves, Minion #16 and Minion #17. But this time I decided to try and make it hollow grind. And it worked! It has some minor fails, but it cuts like hell!…

Hunting knife II version #11

A classical hunting knife. The handle is walnut and acacia. 1.2379 steel. Here I tried a new stitch for the sheath. It came out really interesting, but it gave me some hard time to make it.…

Minion #17

The next tiny, but aggressive member of the minions tribe with the code name #17.

The blade is the same like his brother's #16, but with higher grinded bevels. The handle is ash tree, impregnated and sealed with carnauba wax. Brass guard.

OAL - 165mm, blade - 75/20/3,8mm.…

Two knives with forged silversteel blades

End of May 2016 there was a plein air in Sopot. The theme was "The knife". Lots of really skilled bulgarian knifemakers took part and showed the different stages of knifemaking. There were also two of the best bulgarian blacksmiths - Nikolai Nikolov and Mihail Kochew. They both showd how to forge a blade from a round steel bar. I decided to give a try and under the supervision of them both I forged two silversteel blades.
As a matter of fact, Niki and Mihail made forging look…

Facing the aftermath

I apologize for being a little overwhelmed right now, it's only been about six weeks since my husband died unexpectedly and I'm just starting to understand what I'm facing here. Richard collected. Anything. Everything. He was the guy at the auction who bid a buck on a box full of junk just to get the auctioneer moving along. And he still had every one of those boxes of junk, somewhere. I have only been through the bedroom and 'his' room so far, but I think I've gathered the majority of the… Continue
