TOPS Knives President Mike Fuller

Okay, this is an interesting story.  I don't know what to think of it.  I'm a big fan of TOPS Knives, but this story is too important to not post something about it.

Buck #331 Grand Daddy Barlow

In case you didn't know, SMKW, (Smokey Mountain Knife Works), has an Ebay store. Here's a link: http://stores.ebay.com/MVPs-Knives?_trksid=p2047675.l2563. They call it something else, but if you dig around on the store site you find the SMKW references. They have a quite a number of very nice, very delicious US-made knives for sale, some of them very seldom seen for sale, (like this Buck,…

Knife throwing, anyone? Anyone?

Are there any other knife throwers here? If so, anyone recognize the logo on the cup? :)

I notice there's not a group for throwers, hm...

Case Caliber vs Gerber LST

I wasn't sure which forum to post this in, so I decided to put it here on my blog page.

I won the Case Carhartt Caliber here on IKC in one of Jan's contests, and have carried it daily since then, so obviously I like the knife a lot. Recently I ran across this Gerber at the local swap meet, (got it for $7.50), which I believe to be an "LST", or a model 400, (nothing other than "Gerber" and "Portland Oregon" are on the blade).. As you can see, they are very similar in size and shape,…

24th. Annual Big Sur Jade Festival

I wanted to share what I do as a community volunteer each year, I produce the Big Sur Jade Festival, a volunteer-run event that features the largest  lapidary show dedicated to jade in the country. I am a Director of the non profit, and my specific area is the entertainment venue. I'll attach a pdf of our entertainment flyer, and here is our website: http://www.bigsurjadefestival.org/.

What does this have to do with…

Clean, measured knife-making!

This video from Gough Custom Knives just floored me -- his shop is so clean, & his work so measured...  This was 12 minutes of video worth watching, especially for those of us who have aspirations to make beautiful knives ourselves.

The Second Amendment

  1. The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

What does that mean?  Well let us examine it and see.  It is a fairly simple and short statement.  It has two clauses or sections.  The second states that a particular right of…

Thank You IKC and TC COLLECTIBLES for the Queen #01 Sway Back Jack in Amber Stag Bone

I want to thank Jan and everyone else responsible for making iKnifeCollector such a great place. Here are a couple pictures of the knife I won. The fit and finish on this knife are superb. This is my first Queen folder, now I understand why so many people collect these knives. …

Gotta meet this guy!

Hi guys. Here is a local knife artist I discovered today, who happens to be just down the road from me. I was listening to the Dave Congalton radio show today, (same show I was on last week), and Dave had a guy who manages a website featuring local artists where this particular local artist displays his works. Turns out his studio is nearby, and after reading about him I thought I'd share the site with you guys, it has some of his extremely innovative knives displayed. Seems he was raised by…

Hunters Beware!

Thought my blog was the most appropriate place to post this.

First let me say that what happened to Cecil the lion was wrong. Bad hunt, sloppy kill, (took 40 hours), idiotic corrupt guides, pompous dumb ass hunter, etc, etc. However, I don't feel that dweeb dentist represents the average hunter, I think he's a disgrace, and not a responsible sportsman in any sense of the word. A responsible sportsman would never have put themselves in that position in the first place, but…

Microtech ultratech Auto OTF

Lots of ideas and opinions in this arena, the OTF auto knife nich of the market. I really like the ultratech the feel in your hand and pocket, it carries well. The construction is solid, the action is fast and locks up hard. These are hard use knives designed for battle and self defense.

The ultratech is just one model offered by Microtech knives which are made in the USA , they pride theirselves in the use of the best materials possible. Located in Bradford PA. They are building a new… Continue

Help! What is this?

I received this knife (pictured) many years ago as a gift. Its clearly handmade, but I can't find ANY info about it. The blade is stamped either "Tollefson" or "Tolle & Son". There are no other markings on the blade or the sheath. Can anyone shed some light for me regarding origin or value? Thanks!!…

Angle Cube .

Well my angle cube arrived on Saturday ,or in this case to be more accurate it is a "Bevel Box" same thing as far as I know .

First chance to play with it tonight . First impressions , it's very reassuring to be able to be really accurate with the angles . I think the marks on the Edge Pro are best used as a Guide and of course my stones are now getting a little wear…

Swap Meet Day!!

Well, I won't get a ticket in Tobias' "post in a group contest", but I want to document my finds from today's local swap meet.

First off, we have a small swap, not like the ones you might find in larger metro areas. Ours is a little bit of a throwback to the swaps we remember as kids, lots of used stuff, not that many dealers selling cheap Chinese junk. I'm finding that as far as knife collecting goes, our little local swap is a good place to find those hidden treasures at sometimes…

A look at the Kabar Hobo Slide Apart Knife

A while back Jan Carter sent me  a Kabar Hobo Knife.  She asked me to put it to good use and let her know what I thought about.  So here it goes.

First off  Kabar markets this all stainless steel knife as

the Kabar HOBO, the Complete Slide-Apart Outdoor dining kit.

Despite their marketing I mainly used the knife indoors eating a variety…

The 2015 DKE (Dutch Knife Exhibition) and my personal experience this year.

So this past saturday we had the DKE. And unlike some previous years where I was able to take LOT's of pictures and write commentairy for them.

This year I didn't get around to that at all. But let me tell you about the show from the perspective of a fairly novice maker. (This was only my 3rd show attending as a maker)

At 6:30am a friend of mine came to pick me up. The guy is one of my closest friends and although we sometimes don't talk to each other for weeks…
