I'm here- just holed up in my office

If you've been a member here at iKC for very long you've probably noticed the blog post feed of Cutlery News Journal piped into our community's homepage. That's my personal collector's blog I've written for about a year and a half now. Well, got some changes coming down the pike that I'm pretty excited about, and I think you'll like them too.

If you've not seen me out roaming the streets of iKC over the last couple…

A Name By Any Other....

I recently had a conversation with a constable during the Winter Olympics, and things naturally got around to knives. After going through the aspects of form versus function, the black and white of certain grey areas, we got around to the idea of the knife as a defensive tool. This chiefly revolved around the idea of the knife being used for Self-Defence, which I contended was a misnomer, and that what people "really" meant was… Continue

300 year old Sticky Pine Knives project

Received a piece of 300 year old sticky pine from Andy the Axeman. I decided I will cut it in two for two full tang knives. I will make one Bowie for myself and a Nessmuk for Andy. Attached herewith the progress pics. I have forged the Bowie from an old file and the Nessmuk from a Land Cruiser suspension. I have finished the Bowie off with a Bleach etch to give it an aged look, and it will receive an iron guard and pommel. Will update this blog with progress pics as I go…

Hey everyone it's that time of year again to start planning for this years

What is under the CRKT Bear Claw scales?

I've always wanted a CRKT Bear Claw since I saw it long ago. I was into knives and martial weapons since I was a kid, but when I saw a hawkbill blade somewhere and then eventually learned of the Bear Claws and then the Karambit, i knew I wanted one of each.

But what happened was I skipped the Bear Claw as I couldn't find any here in the Philippines. I was able to find a Karambit quickly enough, A Mantis Cinq3, then I found a decent hawkbill blade, a knockoff…

I've decided to be more active here on iKnifeCollector. So, to start with, I posted five new photo albums including shots of me taking apart a CRKT Russ Kommer Bear Claw that I got as a gift from Nino Lopez of X. O. Knives.

Do please check my albums and comment.

I'm Now A Buck Knives Collectors Club Lifetime Member

I am now an official member of the Buck Knives Collectors Club, Inc. (BCCI).

My Member No. is 1972.

I have wanted to join the club for years, but just didn't ever make it happen.

When I was a teen my mother was going to pay for my membership as a Christmas gift, but I wanted something else more that year. So it just never happened. The Club was pretty new back then.

In December my mother passed away.… Continue

Smith

For all the "Smiths" out there - - -

My dad had a story that he'd tell me;

He said that, long ago, when the world was young, everyone had the name of "Smith".
If someone screwed up, bad enough, they had to change their name.

Still a "SMITH".

The Itch

I cant' stand it. I must be allergic, cause I've got the itch- really bad.

It's like walking through Kudzu here at iKC. Well, the truth is it's not the kudzu that makes me itch- it's the Chiggers (red bugs) living in Kudzu and they eat me alive. They make me itch like crazy. Well, it's not iKC that makes me itch either- it's the knives on display here.

What's the point about… Continue

Characterizing

Once you reach a certain level of technical proficiency at any endeavour,
the only thing that separates you from all others is your character,
and how you incorporate it into that endeavour.

The Community at iKnifeCollector Factoids

There is nothing like iKC anywhere on the web.

When I first was introduced to this community format/technology back early last year there was no doubt in my mind it would make provide for (cause "WE" are the community)- the next generation knife collector community. I'm also going to guess it will remain the most cutting-edge technology until the real geeks of the world make it so we can show our knives to each other in 3-D or High Def, or until we can use… Continue

I love it when they say "Show me"

Last night our training group attended a dinner for a group of roughly 500 people with interest in self-defense. Our group along with other groups had a table to explain what we offer. I had several interesting knifes out on the table which drew considerable attention. At one point one of the attendees ask for a demo of a tool/knife called the Gunting, he said "show me" what this tool can do. After using the Gunting on him to move him in escort position and then control methods I ended up with… Continue

JAT (Just A Thought)

It's not a question of whether you believe in God,

It's more of a question of whether God believes in you...

And that will never happen, unless you believe in your Self.

I walked in the shadow of God.

Down a celestial path through the Ages.

Midway past the Age of Perfection,

God turned and told me to leave.

I asked why?

The reply came...

Belief in you is gone,

Your purpose will never be achieved.

Leave now and…

Mid Ohio Bladesmiths

I've been talking about this for a about 6 months or so now and I think life has calmed down enough to get the Mid Ohio Bladesmiths off the ground. I would like to have a formal meeting to pick a board of directors and get the legal process going at the end of January or the beginning of February.. I would also like to talk about topics such as the rights members have, the articles of incorporation how much to charge for annual membership and what those monies and donations go to and things… Continue

I'm always looking for better ways to communicate and keep folks up to speed on the goings-on here and have decided Twitter is the answer.

What is Twitter? In a nut-shell, it's a mobile web-based network designed for instant- short messaging.
