The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
We call ourselves a knife family. If we are then lets help our brothers and sisters in the Gulf. Our prayers are with you. If you can help in anyway don't be afraid to post. Not preaching, but it can happen to any of us, so let's show our support to our knife family and prove what we say. It might not be more than a shout out, but that means a lot. My prayers are with you. Stay sharp.

Every so often I see a knife that just plain floors me. So I thought I'd share two of those with you all.
These knives were made by a scandinavian maker. Now you should know that in scandinavia it's quite normal for someone to make a blade and someone else to turn that blade into a knife by making the handle a sheath for it. These are like that. The blades were made by Mattias Styrefors and everything else by Tommy Alatalo (check out his website…

Sometimes I buy A knife to carry and can't do it. The community knife will be my next attempt. Wish me luck.

When : Always August 18th
Bad Poetry Day is a day to create some really bad verse. But, why you ask? Perhaps, the answer is simply "because you can". Maybe, it exists to allow us to better appreciate good poetry. Or, perhaps it is to be written to irritate someone......…

i haven't done any good carving in a while, and while sitting at a yard sale, i thought i would do some carving using my Rough Rider stockman knife. i carved a nice face in the cedar wood, but soon after i realized i had created a huge blister on my left thumb. i used my thumb to apply pressure to the spine of the knife while carving.
is there a way to avoid this? did i do something wrong while carving? any solution, or suggestion would be appreciated.
thanks…

In my excitement to have the FB page up, running and an option for us I did not think to let you all know it is not a replacement for our beloved site, it is an enhancement for us. It will give us an option for spending time together and meeting new friends. I apologize for any confusion. Think of the places we can go and the people we can meet!!! So don't be shy...see us in both places

So...here we are. The end of an era. That phrase..."The end of an era"...has been so overused. Perhaps...just perhaps...it's use here lacks the correct..."gravity".
In Part 5, I showed you photos of the Hecla Mining operation...or, more specifically, the ruins that still exist. I stated that even though mining operations had long since ceased, Hecla's main headquarters continued to function in Burke all the way into 1982. And then...the inevitable finally happened; they closed…

If you had to leave your house tomorrow in a pressure, can't return for a while situation, what knife is going with you? It doesn't matter if it's some three foot long machete, tell us what you're taking and why?

Somewhere on another forum someone wanted to know what my "grail knife" was.
Now for me a grail knife is something that is nigh unobtainable. I don't mean just expensive, (or even expensive) but something that you'd have to seriously fight for to get it.
For me that knife was found when I saw pictures of a collaboration between David Broadwell and Burt Foster.
There's always been something about Subhilt Fighters for me. I've yet to own one but the…

Anyone who has looked at my profile knows that I am a newcomer to the knife world.
Last fall I attended a local knife show.I was completely taken in by the diversity of personal collections. by the high level of craftsmanship of makers. By the warmth & friendliness of the people which I encountered. They all seemed more than happy to share their experience as well as the general chit chat. Needless to say it made a lasting impression.
Ballard Baker, a local knife maker is…

Once again, I'll pick up my little story about Burke, Idaho. In Part #4, I conveyed a snapshot of history involving the most infamous of the Hercules Silve Mine's owners, Mr. Horsley. I also started to show you some images of the Hecla Mining Operation that lined one side of the town of Burke. I promised more photos...so here we go!

"Ping", "Ping", Ping". The craftman's hammer falls, driving the pin and setting the blade.
He straightens himself from his bench and works the newly set blade against it's spring. A smooth action and a solid "click" proves that the blade is set well and the lock up is tight. This is just another step before a finished product, one that may end up spending his life in the silk purse of a rich man, or in the pocket of the dirt poor farmer down the road, either way, it's prepared…
