Now that is way too controversial to talk about here!

You know we all are passionate about topics we feel strong about- for some folks it's football (War Eagle!), for others it's religion (..let's not go there), for others it is politics (...don't go there either), but there are many others.

Really though there are hot topics with just about every…

Thunders rants...cellphones

So for those of you who are unaware. Cell phone use while driving in Canada is illegal and will garnish you a stiff fine. The other day while at work i saw a woman with a coffee in one hand (which was holding the steering wheel) putting lipstick on in the mirror with the other. Another gentleman had two dogs scampering about the front seats looking for the best view of the road (that i thought should have been his job). Another man was so busy playing with his window mounted GPS that he almost… Continue

Lone Wolf bought by Benchmade

Yesterday I went to the Lone Wolf company site to look up a knife and things have really changed.  The archive they had is gone and the new knives are disappointing to say the least.  The Paul button locks are completely gone and the site is just a page with nothing more.

So if you have Lone Wolf  knives I would say they will be going up in price.  From what I can see…

New Kresslar Sub Hilt from Boker Plus

I got this knife from A. G. russel and I have to tell you it is a really nice knife.  The fit and finish is amazing since it is an intregal made from one peoce of 440C steel.  The polish on the steel is great and here is what AG wrote on the knife

Dietmar Kressler, one of Germany's most famous knifemakers, partnered with Boker to introduce the Kressler…

Disturbing news. Need your help if you joined iKC recently

I received some disturbing news today- from two different collectors who have attempted to join our community and, for some reason, weren't able to get through the process.

I'm working with both these collectors to get them to try again and document for me what is happening at the step they encounter a problem. One man reported it and I received a cc on his…

Sunday Drives and the iKC Community

One of the aspects I love about our community is the wide range of knife interests represented by our members. When you have time take a stroll through the member list and read each member's profile and their interests. It is easy to see collector niche's range from advertising knives to old bowies, tactical to high-end customs and I…

iKC joins up with facebook

Many of our members joined iKC not only because of all the knife collectors here, but because it was a familiar interface- one that is very similar to facebook- easy to use and very social compared to all the other online knife venues. Well, today iKC added a new feature and one facebook users here and there will appreciate.

facebook currently is a bit larger than iKC. Yeah, membership is…

Knives without tang stamps or not in the books?

Over the years I've come across a few knives that have no tang stamps or tang stamps I couldn't find in the modest collection of price/identification guides that I have on hand. Here are 2 or 3 examples. I'd be interested in hearing and/or seeing any others iKC members might have in their collections.

The first 2 are identical except the first one has a shield that says Central Shoe Company. Neither is tang stamped and I can't find any record of the shoe…

About LANSKY

It's very easy.

And no needs skill.

I get sharpness of the edge to make burr

and remove it.

So, diamond fine is enough for me.

That makes burr fast.…

Bradley Mayhem

Let's start this off by saying that I love this knife. It is of excellent quality, excellent materials, and possesses excellent design. However, it is most certainly not above criticism. I have owned a few other high quality balisongs in the past including the revered Benchmade model 42 and some Bradley Kimuras. From tip to tang, this knife screams quality. S30V blade steel, titanium handle slabs, slim yet sturdy pocket clip, tight spring latch and fairly large pivots make this knife feel and… Continue

The story of the 1942 Imperial W.C. Fields/Mae West Toothpick

My Grandpa bought this knife for my collection back around 1970 from an antique store out in Wichita KS. Even though the story that went with it was fun, there was no written documentation and he always asured me that he paid no high premium for it. I've always taken the tale with a grain of salt, you should too. It goes like this. The movie "My Little Chickadee" starring W.C. Fields and Mae West was released around 1941. It…

Hot off the press- Kinfolks Knives by Dean Case

While not all the members are early American cutlery company history buffs, and I wasn't either when I first got serious about collecting knives, and yet, getting a glimpse of the life and times of those early days helps round out our understanding of many of the How and Why's of knife company history and knife collecting today.

I've just finished reading Dean Case's new book- Kinfolks Knives, A History of Cutlery And Cousins. Dean is the…

Holding a Knife Before Purchase......For A Price?

I see a lot of discussion on how people like to actually HOLD the knives before they make a purchasing decsion. So I thought I would post these links.

But what was driving the effect? The team's initial hypothesis was that the behavior is driven by a classic Pavlovian response. "Behavioral neuroscience suggests that when I put something appetizing in front of you, your brain activates motor…

Has the economy helped or hurt knife collecting- what do you say?

Is our hobby being impacted by the current economic situation? That's the subject of today's opinion poll.

I've heard it argued both ways- in good times folks are flush with cash and looking for something to get into- or the contrary- in bad times folks pull back, spend their money more wisely and have less disposable income and therefore aren't looking for…

Another Name By Any Other...
