Еxtreme makeover

Some (A long) time ago a friend brought me a knife and asked me to replace the handle and to make a sheath for it.
It was not so many work to do, but it took me four months and two days. Four months to overcome my lazyness (I'm not lazy, I'm on energy saving mode) and two days to get the job done. As I say - I am the little god of the big delay.
I forgot to take some pics "before", so there is only "after" pics.…

My knife just bit me!

It's true, my Buck 120 just bit me and I bled all over.  Of course, I was using it as a pry bar.  A few years ago a Kershaw Leek stabbed me in my left hand and I met a very nice hand surgeon.   I feel betrayed somehow when something I have an emotional bond with bites me.  Am I crazy or do you other knife people ever feel the same way?

That Knife.

One day little eyes will look over my knife collection with awe and wonder, kinda like I did with my Grandfather's collection when I was little. A tiny finger will point to a knife and a small voice will ask, "tell me about that knife"? My eyes will probably strain to see exactly which knife has drawn the curiosity. "That knife"? I'll start with a grin on my face, a story will follow. At times those stories will be boring and at times there will be more behind it and by "more", I mean a…

Going back in time .

Well I am starting this blog to record my return to an older type of shaving . Like most of us I at present use the ubiquitous supermarket disposable razors , and have done so for , well I don't really know how long . When did these disposable and cartridge type of razors come about ? I guess I have been shaving regularly since I was around 16 which ,as I was born in 1953 , make it around 1969 when I started . I have a memory a very faint one I admit , to having a razor that twisted to open…

The Modern Bait Knife, Continued, a look at the South Bend Bait Knife

As you probably already know, South Bend is not a knife company but a tackle company.  The knife they offer is out-sourced and made in China.

For those who are unfamiliar, South Bend is a Tackle Company known for offering affordable tackle.  Among some of the brands they offer are Ready2Fish, Blaze Lures, Microlite, Black Beauty, Cahill, ZooKids. The company is known for its efforts to encourage youth fishing.

This American  company can be traced back to 1896…

Trestle Pines Contest! I won!!

I can't seem to find the contest thread, so I'll post this here.

I was just informed by Greg of Trestle Pine Knives that I have won their latest contest, and will be receiving one of their awesome hand-made knives sometime in January or Feb. I got excited and posted a response in the wrong thread, so hopefully Jan can remove that post and place it in the appropriate thread, (I can't seem to find the original contest thread). Needless to say I am…

Ed fowler knife for sale.

First I would like to say thank you for the add. I've been a long time spectator. I have many knives in my collection and enjoy collecting. I have fallen on some hard times lately and as much as I hate to do it I am thining my collection out. I'm not even sure if this is the correct place to post something like this so I apologize ahead of time. The first knife I'm thinking about letting go of is an ED Fowler pronghorn. (No, it is not the one that was stolen off his table. Lol that was a much… Continue

The Modern Bait Knife, Continued, a look at the Fisherman's Pal by R. Murphy

The Fisherman's Pal isa  traditional fishing utility knife that is still being made today by R. Murphy.   There was a time when several American Knife Companies offered a knife of this pattern.  Today, only a few bother to make such a knife, especially in the United States.  The knife is exceedingly affordable.

The Modern Bait Knife, Continued, A Look at the Buck Clearwater 021 Bait Knife

Most modern bait knives are distributed through Tackle Companies.  While several knife companies make fillet knives, very few knife companies offer a specially made fish-utility or bait knives.  The excuse is there isn't much demand for one or that fisherman haven't quite decided what they want in a bait knife.  One of the exceptions is Buck Knives.  While I'm not the worlds biggest fan of Buck, I give them a big thumbs up when it comes to the USA made Buck Clearwater Bait Knife.  It proved…

The Modern Bait Knife by Tobias Gibson

Below is an introduction to a series on Bait Knives.  I will return to this blog over time with reviews of the numerous Utility Fishing/Bait knives I own.

The Modern Bait Knife

by: Tobias Gibson

Before World War II most anglers fell into one of two categories -- those who fished for fun and those who fished for necessity.  Those who fished for fun could afford expensive tackle. Those who fished for necessity made their own tackle and used…

Meet the maker - Greg Dash

I was born and raised in Odessa, on Koblevskaya st.

As far as I can remember - I always loved knives.

But if you ask me "Why?" - I would not be able to give you a clear answer. Just like them.

Always wanted to make them. My first knife I made at the age of nine.

I refiled my grandma's favorite nickel silver butter knife.

Obviously, my grandma was not happy.

And at the age of 12 I had a, shall we say, "running with the law" (more on that below).…
