Napanoch Tool Kit---The Real Deal

Well....the Napanoch tool kit made it to my house tonight.  Dang, that was fast huh??

This thing is sweet.

It is probably circa 1908 or so...anyway it is well over 100 years old!

The leather pounch is in great shape.  It folds and closes just fine with the two clips intact and working just fine!

As are the 7 little internal areas that hold the knife and tools.  Nothing is ripped or torn or mistreated at all.  This surprises the heck outta me!

So each tool…

Knife site

Just wondering does anyone here buy knives frrom SharperDeals.net?

I guess it is an auction site.  I registered and I have looked around a number of times the last 6 months or so but never bid.

This time I found a couple of really nice blades so I'm just wondering if you guys have any history there??  Thanks!

Holy Moly--- More Knives For May??

Well, you can probably tell from my recent string of photos that I have already blown my May knife buying budget.  Ooooops!

So of course what was I doing yesterday?  Trolling eBay and some of my long time sellers as well as looking for something special.

Bumped right into something from a guy who has bought and sold and even traded a lot of knives, and a few guns,  with me.  And he had something that I had just recently learned about.

You know how it is when you just…

In Memoriam
Hammer Forged Knives

I was wondering if anyone was interested in starting a new group of "Hammer Forged Knives". We all know the club has plenty of knife Groups so starting a new one is not that big a deal. I thought there may be a following of hammer forge knives, by makers and collectors. If I see enough people have interest in starting a new group of forged knives, I will try get one going. To give you an idea of forged knives, it would be Randall's, Treeman's, Bulldog Folder's, etc etc. Please let me know if…

A Different Kinda Knife

Ok, this is a different kind of knife.

I won't aggevate you making you guess....too long.

This is a pizza knife or blade or cutter.

A metal blade is in between two pieces of light but strong wood.  The entire thing has a sweet curvature on one side.  But you can see the metal in the middle even on the straight side.

I know people collect…

Portugese Pocket Knife

I think this is Portugese just because I have never seen the knife company.  Silverstenl Briggs.  I could be wrong.

I can't find anything in my books by that name so maybe someone can help me.…

Pick Your Teeth For You??

I bought this knife for one reason.  OK, for 1.5 reasons.

I don't have a Toothpick and this one was cheap.  Got it for like $8.99.

The guy advertised it as a Fisher, but it has no scaler blade, so I thibnk it's a toothpick.

Plus it has that really cool shield on the handle in the shape of a whale.

So maybe it is a fish knife after all??…

I-XL 2 Blade With Etched Blades

Recently I also bought an old, small 2 blade I-XL knife.

I-XL goes overboard on this knife with advertising themselves.

There is the stamped I-XL on the bolster above.  I like how they squared off the bolster in order to stamp the…

Hot Handles

I admit.  I bought these knives because the handles are so beautiful.  They are alike, but different.

And both are hot hot hot.…

Modern Pruning Knives

I have a couple of modern pruning knives that I bought in the last year and i figutre maybe I should post them, see how they stack up against the old ones.

Aesthetically I prefer the old ones, but the new ones both seem to be stronger and better built.…

Cinco De Mayo Knives Number Dos

A few more of the knives I received just yesterday:

The knife below I believe is a Pruner.  It has a tip much like the Hawkbill, but the handle of the Hawkbill makes it stand out.

This knife is from Colonial.  An inexpensive knife, but interesting because of the 2nd blade.  Most pruners I have seen only have one blade.  The 2nd blade here is a screwdriver blade.  It has a factory edge, but I don't believe either blade ever got sharpened.

I can't complain.  This knife…

Cinco De Mayo Knives

Well, none of these oldies represent Cinco De Mayo, but I did get most of them on the recent holiday.  I hope you all had a nice margarita or two.  A friend dropped off some tamales for me, which was really nice.

First up is a really nice George Wostenholm I-XL Hawkbill or Pruning blade from Sheffield England.

I like knives that have etched blades, but when they get this old they tend to lose the etch.  This one is nice and strong.

It has the traditional pinched…

Confusing Names Of Knives Make Confusion For All Of Us

So I really like older pocketknives such as:

  • Sailor's knife
  • Pruner and Cotton knife
  • Hawkbill knife

They tended to confuse me early, when I was even "dumber" than I am now.  They confused me because when they are closed they look so much alike.  The blades stick so far above the handle on all of them.  Now I can mostly tell them apart.

When they are open, the blades confused me because I didn't understand the differences in blade…

Zac Brown, Country Singer And His Knife "Grandaddy"!

Recently in the April issue of Knives Illustrated, an article was written about Zac Brown, a country singer and knife manufacturer.  My boss Bruce Voyles, wrote about Zac Brown and the “Grandaddy” Bowie he produces through his knife manufacturing company called Southern Grind.  Singer Brown is a big knife fan as well as a cook and guitar lover.  This article talks about this knife and Brown’s career.  Brown also has a love of children and is opening a camp for children with challenging…

A Few Small Knives

Today I have some pocketknives of different types & styles.  But all are antiques, so those who don't appreciate antique knives can come back later gator.

Above are some Coca-Cola knives.  One has script writing and one has multi-color handles made from pieces of other handles that had defects.  The red knife attop is a Red Cross knife.  I think each of…
